I tried connecting my Palm Pre to a Sony MBR-100 Music Bluetooth Receiver. It is discoverable on the Pre but when I enter in the Passcode (0000), it says pairing failed. Any ideas? Does that mean they are not compatible? Thanks for any help!

Well I couldnt resist any longer and bought the new Jabra Stone headset. For those of you who haven't seen it yet it is the new cutting edge headset design from Jabra and boy is it ever cool. See it here, Jabra Stone. I won't bore you with the specs, you can see those yourself. Perfect pairing with the pre without the need to enter that stupid "0000" pin. Saw it right away and paired flawlessly. It doesn't even feel like I have anything in my ear it's so light. It is sort of like a earbud design so, since it doesn't go into your ear very far, it isn't the loudest headset even at full volume.Paid full retail $129.99 at the ATT online store with free 2 day shipping. Ordered Friday got it Monday. I'm sure the price will come down as soon as ATT loses it's exclusivity but I just couldn't wait. As far as voice quality it's perfect, no issues on either end of the calls. Haven't really had a chance to put it through any real noise canceling test but I will update as soon as I do. All in all, if you looking for a really cool looking headset (for once) look no further.

I had to do the webos doctor recently because of the 1.3.1 update (finally got that corrected, but what a pain) and realized today that it deleted my bluetooth connection with my hands free system in my car. My question involves the "Device Name". Is our Palm Pre phone's name listed under Device Info? Can we change the Pre's name at that location? When the webos doctor was run, it apparently changed my Palm Pre's name and I need to change it to what it was so I can have access to the phone book on my car's system. Hope that made sense....bottom line....where do you change the Palm Pre's name on the phone?

I have just purchased both of these headsets and thought I would write a review for everyone at this forum. I didn't see any reviews for both of these products so I thought the information might be beneficial.

I wanted a bluetooth headset that could work well in the gym and for my computer. I watch tv with my computer, and that 3 foot range is just miserable. In the gym my headphones always tend to fall off or get ripped right out of my ear. Originally, I looked at the Motorola s9 hd because they got great reviews here. It didn't take long for me to see that these things just wouldn't work. Every time I would push my head back, the headphones would be pushed out of my ears. That made them useless in the gym.

Jaybirds-

Pros
1. they are small and can easily be put in your pocket
2. seems to hold against sweat though I haven't used them long enough to really say they are bullet proof
3. They are rather comfortable and can easily be worn for the duration of a workout.
4. They seem very sturdy and look very sleek.

Cons
1. They DO NOT work with the palm pre other than the phone. I heard about a firmware update on the newer ones purchased directly from them, but I really don't know if that is true.
2. They make you ears point out slightly. At first, this didn't bother me, but it wasn't long before I just felt like a fool looking in the mirror. I am a single guy who doesn't go to the gym to pick up girls, but I don't want people to think I look like dumbo. It doesn't at all make it look like the thing is pushing your ears out, it just pushed you ears out. For a few minutes I swore my ears actually looked like this and the device just made it more apparent.
3. You have the charge it on a dock. Supposedly, this is so sweat doesn't get into the device.
4. The earphones have to be perfectly balanced in order for it to charge. If you slightly touch the chord, it will stop charging without you knowing.
5. Does not come with a wall charger.
6. The thin wire gets stuck to my neck cause it to get ripped out when I look to the left or right. I don't have to be that sweaty for this to happen either.
7. Range is far worse than the jabra halos. Maybe a 15 foot range in best case scenario.
8. Static was loud when nothing was on. On my computer I usually just keep headphones on but it was annoying listening to the hissing 24/7
9. I had to pair the device every time I went on my computer. Again, someone said a firmware update fixed this, but I purchased it at target because it was dramatically cheaper so I don't know.
10. I have the included ipod attachment and it is pretty useless. You ipod would have to be on your arm or it would not work at all. Even at my waist it was completely cut out.
11. The volume button controls the volume and changes the track (depending on how long you hold it). I noticed that it would change the track by mistake but not even just one song. Sometimes it would skip like 5 songs.
12. I don't like that it blinks. The halo hides the blinking light on the inside which I like.

Jabra Halo

Pros
1. Very comfortable. I have worn them for over 4 hours and it didn't bother me. They are snug but would tend to fall off if I bent over to pick something up off of the floor.
2. The range seems great (indoors). I haven't used them outside, but indoors they blow away the range of the jaybirds. it goes through separate rooms without giving me any problems.
3. Sound a very good. Better than most 20 dollars ear buds. Bass is there, but will cause distortion if it is too loud.
4. You can plug it in if you are using something without bluetooth. This makes me not have to carry around two pairs of earphones. I want to know if it actually turns off the bluetooth because I fly a lot and would rather not carry two head sets.
5. It has touch sensitive controls which work great for me.
6. I was on the phone for 4 hours and the caller said I sounded good. I walked away from the phone several times and had no problems.
7. Comes with ac adapter and usb charger.
8. Pairs with my computer and phone at the same time allowing me to watch a movie and not miss a call.
9. Easy to turn on and off.
10. Hidden blinking light.

Cons
1. the velvet type padding gets wet when you workout making it very uncomfortable. They feel a lot like ear muffs warming your ear slightly.
2. Will not stay on during vigorous exercise. Leaning forward or running would almost definitely send these things flying.
3. I feel like the hinge system may break after a short time. They feel very strong and durable but when I open and close them I really feel like I am snapping it and forcing it back to place.
4. Kind of hard to carry around. Even though they fold up they aren't able to be thrown in a bag without the chance of them breaking.
5. I have also read the that halos have a minimum volume that is too loud if you are trying to pair it with an ipod touch or ipod. This may have been solved on iphone updates but you could always use an adapter.
6. They are pretty big and I felt stupid wearing them in the gym. The size also cause me the get dramatically hotter during my workout.

Overall, I am not satisfied with either of the devices 100%. I originally wanted a device more for the gym and none of them do that. On the other hand, I like the Jabra so much for home use that I may just keep them for that. One nuisance with both of them is that they have a delay so the audio never syncs right, but I think that is a problem with bluetooth in general.

I am thinking about the backbeat 903's now. It looks like the stiff wire makes it hover behind your neck, solving the problem I have with the jaybirds. If anyone has any suggestions, I would really appreciate it.

Also, if anyone wants me to do any tests with these devices, ask away. I just got them so I have a good amount of time to test them out.

I have complained in a couple of threads about the lack of voice dialing on the Pre, and in one post it was pointed out to me that BlueAnt made two models of Bluetooth headsets that did voice dialing independent of your phone's capabilities. Radio Shack has the newest model, the Q1, in stock, so I figured I'd give it a try.

The Q1 retails for $129 and includes the headset, ear clip, two rubber ear cushions, a USB wall charger and charging cable. The packaging is stylish but wasteful, with a hard plastic upper half that displays the headset (sans earclip) on a pedestal while all the accessories are housed in the cardboard lower half. BlueAnt must be somewhat cognizant of the wasteful aspect of the packaging, since there are some tongue-in-cheek suggestions included in the instructions on things you can do with the plastic end of the package, such as keep pennies or goldfish in it. In any case, at least it's not a blister pack. One big disappointment is that the charging cable is a whopping six inches long, limiting where you can plug this thing in.

The headset itself is a dual microphone active noise cancellation unit. It's medium sized by today's standards, around two inches long with a half inch protuberance with the earpiece perched on it. It has a gentle curve to it to help aim the business end more toward your mouth. With the exception of the flashing BlueAnt logo on the main button there's not really anything to distinguish this from any other headset.

The instructions included with the headset are disappointing, to say the least, consisting of a one inch square accordion folded paper with a list of basic functions printed on it. If you need anything more advanced you'll have to go to BlueAnt's web site and download the full documentation in .pdf form, and you'll have to register your product before they'll let you download it. I mention this because the basic instructions will not work when you're setting this headset up for use on a Pre.

So, on to the thing that sets this headset apart: voice dialing. If you're looking for a full featured voice dialing package you're going to be disappointed. The Q1 achieves voice dialing by using the phones built in speed dial functions, that is to say, you can only voice dial numbers preset on speed dial on your phone, and the headset only allows you to address eight of these. You initiate voice dialing by pressing the main button, to which the headset responds with the voice prompt "Say a command". At this point you can say, for instance, "Call speed dial two" and the headset will signal to the phone to dial the number assigned to speed dial number two. There is no voice recognition to dial based on contact names or any other criteria.

Even with the limitations listed above, setting this functionality up on the Pre takes some special configuration. the problem is that while the Pre's speed dial may look like what you're used to on other phones, there is one big difference, that being the actual key that the speed dial is bound to is the letter that the number shares the key with on the physical keyboard. For instance, if you go into contacts on the Pre and assign speed dial number 2 to a contact you will see that it is actually bound to speed dial R. The headset has no way to initiate speed dial R, so the phone does nothing when you tell the headset to call speed dial 2.

The workaround for this is to assign a specific number gathered from caller ID to a speed dial within the headset. You do this by receiving a call, then, after the call has ended you press and hold the Vol- button, which will cause the phone to offer to allow you to store the caller ID of the last call received as a speed dial number. This works, but it's very clumsy, since the only way to store a number this way is to have the person call you. I should also mention that none of this is covered in the documentation that comes with the headset; you must download the full documentation from the website to find this.

Once you have this all configured the headset works very well. If the headset is unsure of something you've said it will ask you to repeat it, but in my experience if you use the format it expects commands to be given in, i.e. "Call speed dial two" vs. "Call two", it very rarely asks you for clarification.

Other features include last number redial simply by saying "Redial" and callback last incoming number by saying "Call Back". You can even get a list of commands by saying "What can I say". One capability I really like is the ability to transfer audio back to the phone by pressing both the Vol+ and Vol- buttons at once. My wife hates headsets, so this is a nice feature when handing a call over to her.

Early on Pre users complained about the Q1 having exceptionally short battery life. This turned out to be an issue where the Q1 would never go to sleep or low power mode when connected to a Pre, but a firmware update fixed this issue. My Q1 came with firmware 8.15 installed, while the latest available version was 8.16. In another minor annoyance, the Update software looks for newer versions of the firmware and automatically installs any newer version found before allowing you to manually update to 8.16p, which fixes the battery life issue for Palm Pre users.

The voice dial capabilities of the BlueAnt V1 and Q1 are unique among Bluetooth Headsets, and a functional alternative for Pre users who are missing voice dial. The audio quality is good and the noise reduction is effective, but not any better than many lower priced headsets. I personally think that a full featured voice dialing application for the Pre is coming, it's just a matter of time, and if you can wait you will likely be happier with that than the series of tradeoffs that this headset represents. If, on the other hand, you feel you need voice dialing now, this headset is a viable solution. It's not fancy, but it is competent at what it does.
