The duplicated contact won't stay open long enough to delete it.

I've deleted the exchange account and added it and it is still duplicated.

Last night I hit the update button my accident when I plugged the phone in to charge (doh!). So, here we are. I had to run EPR because Preware wouldn't uninstall the patches I had installed, and that seemed to work fine.

However, I'm not aware that any programs out there like Preware or Preload, etc, recognize Fain's script as a patch. So, does someone out there have a script to remove the old 1.2.1 script so that I (and others in my position) can handle roam only as a patch from now on? If not, would any of the skilled and gracious programmers possible hack something out real quick?

I don't know anything about it, but it seems like all you would have to do is look at Fain's 1.2.1 script, find out what was added/altered, and write a script to delete it.

(And by the way, if you've got a cracked screen too and are just trying to solve the problem of how to get your pictures even though you can't get to usb mode, read on)

My pre's screen cracked, so I can see everything but have ZERO response on the screen. Been trying to figure out how to get my data and pictures, but everything has been a dead end - problem being that my phone was not rooted prior to the accident, and there was no way to enable USB mode or to enable developer mode with a messed up screen.

Til this new 1.3.1 OS, which has the functionality to enable USB mode even if your screen isn't working. Here's the rub: HOW in the HECK are you supposed to get the stinkin update if your screen's busted???

Here's how:

From the main screen, type in "update". When it comes up in search, press enter. This will make the Pre start determining if there is a recent update. It will find that you should upgrade to 1.3.1, but then it will ask you if you want to download it now... and you can't agree. Because your screen is busted. DON'T PANIC! Just let the thing sit there for awhile. It'll download it.

Okay then it's the same problem again -- it wants you to select either "install now" or "install later". But you can't select either, of course, BECAUSE YOUR SCREEN IS BUSTED. Well, you can do one of two things -- either wait a week and the phone will install it whether you like it or not, OR... simply unplug the phone from the charger, wait a minute, then plug it back in. The Pre will think you're going to bed and are cool with it being out of commission for 15 minutes, so it will say "Installing in 10 Minutes". Let it install it, restart, etc, and you're good to go. Then, just do what Palm says to do:

You can access USB Drive mode by pressing and holding the orange key/Option + Sym + U after connecting the phone to the computer. This enables you to access USB drive mode if the screen is broken or stops responding to taps.

Now, you can get your pictures Promise. I got mine...

BUT THIS IS WHERE I NEED HELP!!!

I want to get the rest of the data, primarily Text messages, MMS messages,
Call logs (am I missing anything??), but how do I do it? I found plenty of posts about how to get to this data IF your Pre is already rooted, AND you can use the touchscreen (I can't post a link but it's in these forums. it's forums.precentral.net/palm-pre/187145-how-back-up-text-messages-when-exchanging-phones.html), but mine was never rooted and I can't enable developer mode to do it, even though I can now turn on USB mode...

So here's the question of the hour, peeps:

HOW IN THE HECK CAN I GET TO MY TEXT MESSAGE AND OTHER DATABASE FILES ON THE PRE NOW THAT I CAN ACCESS IT THROUGH MY COMPUTER WITH THIS FANCY NEW USB MODE KEY SEQUENCE THAT PALM CAME UP WITH???

Please please PLEASE HELP!!! I only have a little bit of time left before I HAVE to send the old Pre back to the insurance company, and I need this data!! Especially the texts!!!

I might be slow or something but I have a couple of questions and a observation.

I thought that when you slide to delete a text convo that it goes away for ever. I was wrong, I was in the main menu today of the text messages and didn't choose a conservation and typed in "Em" and then the next thing I knew a conversation that I had with my contact "Emily" 2 weeks ago appeared. Is that normal? Is there a way to permanently delete convos?

Next, I had a convo that I had with someone around a week ago. I need that conversation but deleted it. But in the last day or 2 I have texted that person again. It only came up with that recent conversation that I had when I typed their name in the main menu. Is there a way to get the past conversation(s)?

I know that my 2 questions contradict each-other but just want to know.

First off, I'm glad I found this site. It's very busy, updated frequently, and I've enjoyed reading the articles and tips. Thanks!

I took the plunge, signed up with Sprint, and got my first Palm Pre on Halloween. The Any Mobile, Anytime plan was just too good to resist. So I've had the phone about two weeks now and I love everything about it, but I have some questions and some ideas that I'm considering:

1) I've looked into getting the Touchstone. It's about the same price here as it is on Amazon and I have some left over Amazon credit. My question is: is it worth it? I've been charging phones via cord forever, and I really don't have much of a problem with that, but the Touchstone would be convenient, as I wouldn't have to worry about breaking the USB connector door as many have claimed has happened. Also, does the Touchstone backing for the phone match the front of the phone or does it look strange?

2) When I signed up for Sprint, they spelled my name wrong. :( It doesn't really bother me; it's a common misspelling. I managed to get it changed, but my @sprintpcs.com email, according to my Pre, is still with the incorrectly spelled name. It doesn't bother (as I doubt I'll ever use it) but I was just curious if anyone has had any experience with that and knows if that can be changed.

3) I haven't had any problems with the phone yet! It crashed once (I was in a little to no service area and a text came in. It froze on the lock screen when I went to check it.) but I reset the phone and all seems to be well. I read some of the reports of cracked screens, broken USB doors, the oreo effect (which is really frightening for a phone I just got!) ... is there anything I should be worried about? The general consensus seems to be that in later phones, many of the build quality issues have been fixed. But what are the best ways to prevent those sorts of problems from happening?

4) I've read about the LED notifications trick. I'd really like to use that (as I've been missing calls and messages a lot) but I'm hesitant to do the "hack" because I'm afraid it'll break my phone on the next update or something. It scares me that it's unofficial. Is there anything to worry about by doing that? Or should I just be patient and hope it's present in the next official update?

My Pre started acting weird lately. My battery is dead after 2 1/2 hours of non-use from a complete charge. The phone is always warm to the touch... even when I am not using it. I just don't understand. I was driving home with Pandora on and it dropped 15% to 85% in 35 minutes(acceptable) closed Pandora and about a hour later I heard the low battery 20% ding. I have 3 gmail accounts, thats it. Could that be it?
