After being let down once again by the 1.3.1 update, I decided to take a sip of the Android Kool-Aid and purchase a Hero. I love webOS but I'm tired of waiting for basic stuff to be fixed or implemented. The Pre as a whole is a great concept with tons of potential but Palm just isn't delivering the goods as far as I'm concerned.

My dilemma now is trying to figure what to do with my Pre. I have three Touchstones, a car charger, an extra battery, and various other odds and ends that would probably pay for my Hero purchase and then some if I were to throw them on eBay. I've already left the Pre platform once and came back though (I had a launch day Pre that I took back after only a few days)... perhaps I should just put all this stuff in a box somewhere and check back in on the community in a few months when the Pre may be closer to being out of beta status?

Decisions, decisions... :)

In any event, I want to thank all the fine folks here at Precentral for the wealth of information on webOS / the Pre that you've shared. Also, a HUGE thanks to the Homebrew crew for doing your best to add functionality to our phones and fill in the cracks that Palm has been unable or unwilling to. You guys rock!

Take care everyone!

With this being my last night using a Palm device (700p with a Droid showing up tomorrow), I just wanted to thank everyone (left?) here for all of the advice given, whether or not I was the intended recipient. It was boards like these that really made my Palm experience more enjoyable than I could have expected for the OS, and upon some reflection felt compelled to express my gratitude to those that are remaining. Thank you all very much, and I wish you all the best with your handhelds and smartphones going forward.

Ok everyone, I have to say, I went to go see the Droid and used it for a while. First thing, I HAVE TO RANT ABOUT IS...

Form factor. This thing is just so uncomfortable in the hand. There is nothing like the feel of the Pre. The pre is small, very smooth and does not feel so rough in the hands.

I was trying to play with the droid at the store and it's just not that appealing. If I understand this right, it suppose to be for consumers not business? To me, as a consumer I can't stand the way it looks. I was trying to use one hand to move around the droid menu and wow... I am so glad I have the Pre. The Pre is extremely smooth compared to the droid. The droid "jitters" when scrolling. Which I was suprised. It does look like a big brick though, feel like it could be a lethal weapon :P

Anyway, It is so huge that I cannot use it in one hand, and that's what I love about the pre.

Ok but I have to say, the Droid Docking station, that is really awesome. Does anyone know if something like that is coming out for the Pre? I am not a touchstone fanatic, but the docking station for me would be excellent accessory. I actually get home sometimes and connect it to my surround sound system so I can hear some music through it. I hate having to have to connect the power cable then the audio cable. I would love to just have a cradle I could dock and it works. Any Word? :D

Thanks... My rant mode is now off

This seems a bit disconcerting to both Apple's "walled garden" approach to the app store and to the dangers of our modern smartphones. We have a lot of personal data on these systems, all condensed down, interlinked, and always connected to the Internet for our convenience. Even something as unrelated as a game can now broadcast our personal information to the highest bidder.

It's been said that security is a process, not a product. Hopefully Palm is aware of this.

I went to the local bestbuy today to get the newest version of the Sprint HTC Hero and I stood in line for over an hour. In that hour I saw over 10 Droids being sold. The Verizon rep was there helping the Best Buy Mobile reps in getting everything up and running. They had 40 units and sold a quarter of them in one hour. This does not even include what verizon is doing. They opened at 6am.

Android is taking over and the buzz is out there. I saw moms and dads 40-50 year old people to teenagers buying the phone, some purchasing 2-3 units at once. I would guess most of them are clueless of the power of android. Android is getting more and more powerful each day.

The 12000 apps available will surely grow rapidly with all these new customers jumping over to android.

Where does this put palm in this game? I think multi task is great but is this going to be enough? The pre is going to verizon and with all the droid buzz I don't see the pre being a heavy hitter. The snapdragon coming to AT&T with a 1ghz processor running android and verizon to get another android phone by the end of the year. That makes 3 for verizon, 2 for sprint, and at&t to get atleast 2.

Oh just to add. I had and issue with my earpiece on my hero and got the newest stock hero with the google branding. This phone is even better than the first one and I thought the first one was terrific. HTC saw the problem and fixed all the issues within 20 days of release. Why hasn't palm done this when they clearly see all the issues with their build quality???

So Pre #3 broke this weekend, same thing that happened to my last Pre, external speaker is blown. I can't keep switching phones every month or 2, it's really getting frustrating. I don't play music through the speaker, the only thing I use the damned thing for is to check my voice mail, as an alarm clock, and if anyone calls, it rings. I think anyone who knows my posts here knows I love the phone, but enough is enough. I'm considering talking to retentions, to see if they can throw me a bone, otherwise, I'll replace the Pre AGAIN, sell it, and buy the Moment(assuming it's decent, I'm going to try it at lunch). Has anyone had any luck with retentions in situations like this? Thoughts on the Moment? It's got everything I want in an Android phone, including a faster processor.
Thanks in advance.
