These are pre-production specs, but at this point in the game I'd bet they're not too far off from what the production models will offer. I don't think people are really "surprised", but more so disappointed because they like the OS and form factor but want the multitasking, memory, and connectivity that other devices already have (and many more to come this year - I can't wait for some of the 3GSM conference announcements this week).

Regardless, this thread happens every time a new model is released. I am not bashing palm either, to me the 650 was a big improvement over the 600- well worth the money. I just think at this point expecting palm to delvier a state of the art device is like asking Ford to deliver a luxury sedan in the >$50k market.

Robber, I don't think that anyone is "expecting" that from Palm, but more so hoping so that they don't have to jump ship to a different manufacturer/OS. Even Fords have come a long way

Expect, hope, ---whatever.
It would be really interesting to see what Treos would be like if Handspring was never aquired. I miss the Handspring days...

Most likely, if not you can wait a couple of years and pick up a lightly used one for $16,500!

Palm IS Handspring. Ed and Jeff are running the show. Rest assured that Ed Colligan and Jeff Hawkins would be doing the exact same thing if they were in charge of Palm or Handspring (perhaps they'd be doing EVEN LESS as HS because they wouldn't have the resources that Palm afforded them).

No Donna though- regardless what happened, Handspring was so innovative- Prism, Edge, Treo, etc and Palm sits happy with the C for 4 years, makes no changes to the OS, the Tungsten has been stale since the T3, and the TX while cool- is bland in comparison to the newest PPCs.
Handspring to me used to mean innvoative and ahead of the curve. That doesn't exist anywhere in the Palm world now.

I'd really like to see Palm go with a decent 2MP camera. Doesn't have to be 5MP, but 2MP (and good) would be cool. There are a ton of camera-phone enabled things like scanR where you can take a picture of a business card, and get a .vcf file in your inbox, or take a picture of a document and have it faxed to a fax machine coming own the road for crappy camera phones to be as useful.
