I don't think it's even a real device.

The screen shot shows the phone interface from a 650. The new 680s use a different interface. Why would palm go back to an older designs/software?

Fake crap.

I think I've seen this before....If I recall a few years ago Palm had something called the Treo Road show to promote the 650 at the time. During the road show presentations they showed a pic of various form factors iterations that they had considered and this once looks very familiar as one of those iterations perhaps... hmmm.....

In anycase, I think this mockup is plausible if not regrettable. I think it just looks fugly as it is now, but Palm probably would be able to pretty it up later...

I'm more interested in the rumors of the so called "800p" being passed up by Sprint...*** is up with that?!

Let's see - the top is a creative Zen music player - the screen is off a 650? the pad is from a lifedrive and the keys are pre the curved evolution we saw on the 650 and so on - it's a fake.

Edit: actually the whole body is a Creative Zen with the rest stuck over the top.

Anyone able to work out where the two other buttons are from ? They look familar but I cannot quite place them.

Doesn't the 755p use the same phone interface as the 650?

Gee...guess it is real.

Great analysis to all the doubters. Care to shed any more wisdom?

This is really interesting, because WM smartphone does not need a touch screen, and PalmOS does.

Trying to capitalize on the success of the dash, Q and BJ. Could be a great competitor if Palm did their usual OS tweaks which were sorely missing from the Q.

Plus it fits the notion of the "low cost" Hollywood rumor floating around for 2 years.

But the original picture had a PalmOS dialer. Is there a PalmOS that works completely without a touch screen?

Not to my knowledge, but:

1) PalmOS you really don't need a stylus. You originally needed it for "Graffiti" but that is long gone. The stylus today is more or less a carryover but is not needed for day to day operations, hence the "one-handedness" feature that POS users harp about.

2) Seeing as they control Garnet now, if they choose to use that no reason I see that they can't "dumb it down" a bit and modify whatever really needed a stylus to a non-touchscreen standard.

But honestly, that's a lot of speculation. Who knows if they are doing both OSs for this device, though one would imagine that they would.

Well, the original b&w image was very Photoshopped. It was fake. That hasn't changed. The screen, the d-pad, and the keyboard. They're all fake, and they're all different from the color photo. So no apologies.

Why would they do that when there's a real device? I don't know. Maybe some guy was trying to recreate it from memory.

Now the color image seems to be a real device. Given the fake b&w image, I would wonder about this too (for example, it's pretty easy to paste the logo and blur the photo). The keyboard looks like a Palm keyboard - except for a missing right shift key. All Treos have a button to the right of the Alt key - it's Shift on WM and menu on PalmOS. It's possible that they just moved the menu back up to the big buttons above for PalmOS, and got rid of the extra shift key for WM. (The b&w image includes the extra key.)

There seems to be a Windows logo in the lower left corner of the screen, which looks to be 320x240. They mentioned 320x240 screens in one of their slides a couple months back, so we'll likely see that on a WM phone, and conceivably even on the new Linux OS. I doubt we'll ever see 320x240 for the old PalmOS.

Isn't it striking the lack of excitement these new devices bring. When the Treo 700p showed up there were 1000 posts in only a few hours. Today no-one is bothered. The 755p came with hardly a murmur, and everyone is ignoring this device.

Its just sad really.

You don't want to apologies, that's fine with us! But dude, drop it, please. The B&W photo was posted as described earlier. Seeing that we were being excused of "Photoshoping" My source went on and Published the actual color photo from the Sprint roadmap himself. The display is the display, that's how Palm sent it to the Sprint team. We did not touch the the photo!

But we will continue to bring Palm fans news as soon as we get it, the way we get it! We endeavor to be another fun source of information and discussion. We haven't and will not jeopardize that opportunity! We feel lucky that we have an avenue to bring you this sort of news and stimulate Palm talk!

As far as the Gandolf goes, I don't think it's particulary all that good looking. But I do think it "will" hit it's targeted audience, which is a good thing for all of us. It just might keep them in business long enough to release the darn 800p, which with the specs that I have, is the phone we all want! You may or may not have seen our post on the 800w that will be released on Sprint around the same time as the Gandolf. It has wifi enabled. Wrong OS but step in the right direction.

In your drawing, the screen is off-center, the screen proportions are about 320x300, the keyboard is crooked, and the d-pad is drawn in. The shape of the b&w device doesn't even match the photo.

As for the published color photo, why would the Sprint roadmap have a picture of a Vodaphone device? Is there another photo you're talking about?

Like I said before the original photo was stretched horizontally and looked whacked. See my updated image earlier in the thread, it matches the new photo. And the screen is 320x320 I bet. With a touch screen.

It's make sense to have the Palm version 320x320 and the WM Smartphone edition as 320x240, since that is what the Q, Dash and BJ are, hence any "screen differences" between the mock-up and the photo.
