Which is great since we all get to upgrade at least one line every 12 months with Sprint at new customer pricing. Bring on the Pre2.

Well, you hear the rumors that the Pixie/EOS have been axed or put on the back burner. How's this for an idea, the Pixie/EOS for the holiday season. That would make a great stocking stuffer. We can dream, for those that have a Pre, how about 100 Apps by then, real Apps, uesful ones.

um It's currently in development and its called Palm Uon

Here are some really nice features it has

-3.5-inch hover multi-touchscreen capacative resolution 1024x768
-Second 3.5-inch sliding hover multi-touchscreen resistive landscape
Drop detection (using acelerometer)
-8 Megapixel or 5 Megapixel camera (in decision) with Xenon Flash and HD Video Recording
-3 Megapixel or 5 Megapixel camera (in decision) with LED Flash and DVD Quality video recording and video calling
-4G capable
-Incorporating Broadcom's Wireless N chip for phones
-Six-Axis acelerometer
-Noise cancelling microphone
-Bluetooth 3.0 (pending)
-planned mini-USB with compatibility for USB 3.0 speeds and Firewire
-New storage capacities from 32GB to 128GB using SSDs
-512MB of RAM
-Incorporating NVIDIA Tegra platform.... view HD media

Also featuring webOS 2 (an update that will also be available for the Pre)

webOS 2
-Zune replacing current Palm Media Player app allowing users to access billions of songs for $15 per month with a Zune Pass and all those songs are treated as if part of the user's library (since they are streamed).... also allows access to Zune Marketplace and syncing with Zunes (syncing with iPod (touches) and iPhones is unknown but may be possible)
-Xbox LIVE.... access and remotely control your Xbox 360 and now multiplayer online gaming on Xbox LIVE plus new library of games will be introduces for the PRe and Uon with new Xbox LIVE Arcade Pre.... featuring mostly Xbox LIVE Arcade games converted for the Pre but also featuring user created games
-Video recording with advanced editing including editing in real time
-Advanced photo and video editing with Adobe solutions (Photoshop, Premier, Flash, etc.)
-Improved browser with Adobe Flash Player enabled
-Enables self clocking processor function which will save Pre's battery life and also make it faster..... IT will allow the processor to overclock itself to run a app faster if needed and downclock when not needed to be used in full power or in idle
-Rent movies using Zune Marketplace and Amazon store using cellular network and Wi-Fi

Their's a few more things it adds

Why is Palm considering removing the physical keyboard?

Because two touchscreens (one main touchscreen and the second is a sliding one) may turn out more useful than a touchscreen and a keyboard

The main touchscreen uses capacative technology and features multi-touch and multi-hover touch support

The second touchscreen will feature resistive technology and feature multi-touch and hover-multi touch support.....

Both are 3.5-inch screens.... so the second screen you can use a full 3.5-inch screen to type on accurately (since it uses resistive)....

Also sorry but a media card reader couldn't be included......

But ideas of a new flash media are in the works that will be comapatible for the Pre and Uon

What kind?
New ideas of microUSB flash drives that fit seamlessly and integrate with your microUSB port (remove by sliding fingernail and push).... But it is under consideration and not yet in development..... a prototype has been created though.... It's a 16GB microUSB drive. It doesn't go as fast though so it needs some improvements
'
So their are two inputs on the Uon while on the Pre there are three

Uon
3.5-inch secondary sliding multi-touchscreen using resistive - On-screen keyboard and sidescreen support (similar to Nintendo DS)

Handwriting Recognition - Write letters on screen and it will be converted into words....

The CPU it uses is under decision

A custom AMD processor clocked at 1.6GHz (no prototype yet still pending, AMD says it might be a dual core or it will implement it's Dual Threading technology on it)
Built on new 32nm technology......

A new ARM Cortex II Processor clocked at 1.6GHz and its not dual core

So far it might turn up to AMD because it is cheaper yet faster but the ARM Cortex II will support HD media and has no prototype yet too and may also turn out to be faster it depends

They said that they may remove that physical keyboard in favor of the new sliding resistive multi-touch screen..... IT uses resistive technology (being the first multi-touch resistive phone) so it will feature pressure sensitivity (how hard you push the screen) and will be very accurate when youching (cause it uses resistive)....

Here are some reasons why they may drop the physical keyboard

-They are implementing handwriting recognition in the device also on the Pre with update
-the sliding touchscreen will serve for more purposes including but not limited to as a secondary screen for apps and games like the one on the Ninteno DS

But they may not drop it and in favor give it a landscape keyboard

What do you think guys..... physical keyboard or multi-touchscreen resistive screen which gives very accurate calculations....and pressure sensitivity

Also both screens are OLED.....

They would have put a trackball but have decided not to... because of backward compatiblity wanted with the Pre's apps and games cause both devices willl be able to play online against each other and sync with each other

If this is true I think Palm is making a BAD NO NO! Releasing the Pre2 before users initial Pre 2 year contracts are up will be a mess! So many users will be frustrated they wasted their money on the Pre when they could have waited for the Uon. I highly doubt that Palm would make that mistake. Their best bet is to improve the WebOS and get a stable product before creating a version 2.

Only physical improvements to me would be slightly larger screen and landscape keyboard. It only make sense to mostly use the wider-screened view of anything... maybe vidcam on the front for videocalls, nicer vidcam on the back, bigger battery, 4G. Good enough for me to drop half a 4-figure check on seein as though I'm already with Sprint.
