The pages (cards) also refreshed before the update, but only if the page content changed (I.e. Someone else posted a comment in a thread you had open). This is not a new feture of the update (I know because I haven't updated yet). IMO its a great feature

This doesn't happen to me, but it sounds like you're running out of memory. The Pre actually just places an image instead of a full web page when it's out of memory, that's the blurry thing you see. It then also reloads the page when you switch to it. If you've opened a bunch of cards, that's probably what's happening.

I also don't like the jerky motion when you just want to go up or down. I understand they have diagonal scrolling now but its kind of annoying and it sure doesn't look good. I wish they could find a way to modify it so diagonal scrolling would be something initiated by a gesture or by a keyboard button but default scrolling would be just up and down.
|
Yeah, I noticed on the mobile PreCentral that now the page bounces sideways when I scroll. Sigh.

my phone is stuck. It won't load, it just sits there with "palm" on the screen. I've let it sit for hours, pulled the battery a few times, let it sit for 4 hours. Won't load the OS.

Ack!
Woke up this morning with my pre completely off line. Ok... sign back into my account. Can't do it. Do you want to restart or erase data? JUST RESTART PLEASE!!!
Ok. We're good there. But my preferences are GONE (speed dial, photo dial, web pages I had saved, etc.), my messaging conversations are gone, etc. Thank God my pics are still there or I'd have been argh!
So my question is WTH?? Is this because of the over-the-air update? I'm NOT happy....

So playing with the browser this morning - finding similar issues as to the zoom 'zooming' too much when typing (specfically just now in this reply). Rectified with a 2x tap.
Also (and I don't know if this was present in previous version) gmail web app (gmail.com) when composing a new message and hitting send - well nothing happens. Tried it several times - but refrshing the page does kick you back to the inbox with the message sent.
Was doing the gmail thing to test IMAP IDLE which seems to be working fine for me with everyone.net.

2010 Mazda 3 Car Kit
My Car Kit for my 2010 Mazda 3 still sounds generally bad through Bluetooth. It crackles and is tinny. Guess I wont be using it for music still since using the audio input jack is too much of a pain.

Anyone able to add/update contacts from an email address?
I tried to get Missing Sync to work after the update (it began flaking out a week before update). Still had issues. Oh well, figured issue was Missing Sync.
But then this morning, noticed all my non-facebook contacts were gone (probably when I reinstalled Missing Sync). Ok, tried to readd one by forwarding myself an email.
And I cannot update my contacts. Try updating an existing contact (me!), and tried adding a new one. Both get:
Error
There was an error saving this contact.
Please try again.
I think losing the contacts was due to reinstalling The Missing Sync, but being unable to add a contact...
Can anyone confirm that they can add a contact via Email?

Same exact thing happened to me. Everything is working fine after following all the prompts, signing back into my Palm account, restarting and not erasing all data, but lost my SMS history, bookmarks, and call log.

Go to "Sounds and Ringtones" -- New function at bottom -- volume with slide bar. Your can now control the volume of your system sounds.

The issue I have had with the pages refreshing was not caused by a change in site content. I have noticed it even when going to static sites. And I don't think this is a great feature at all. It causes me to lose my spot on the pages when I go back to them, and I have to wait for it to load in order to view the page again, which takes up even more time. If I want a refresh, I'll do it myself. I had noticed this occuring before the update, but it was very rare for me. Now it's everytime I switch between pages.
I am done being a Palm apologist. I bought a ton of stock when the pre was first unveiled, I stood in line to buy it on release day, I looked past the build issues, the lack of apps, and even got my brother and two friends to leave their carriers and come over to Sprint for the pre. I have tried to teach myself programming so I could participate in the fantastic homebrew development environment. I am sick and tired of hearing excuses for Palm about the half-azzed updates they are giving us. There is absolutely no excuse for this phone not to have the functionality that the homebrewers have opened up. And this "update" gives me what? The ability to switch off data??? Notifications on the lock screen??? Where are the standard features that should've been here from the start? Video recording, text-forwarding, a decent media player (why does it take DanPLC to create a good version of a music player?)
And now I find that to close the launcher pages, they've changed it from swiping down to swiping up. W...T...F? Way to prioritize Palm. Leave the real problems alone, and make a counter-intuitive change to a feature that was working fine, but now makes absolutely no sense. Why did you have to make this change, instead on concentrating on the actual issues that are dragging the phone down.
I don't know. Do you think Palm is just f'n with us? Maybe reading these forums, and saying to themselves, "Man, I bet it would **** them off if we did this!!!" I really can't think of any more excuses for these guys. Can you?

My update went OK (knock on wood) with the exception of the fact that it made me update twice for some reason - I had updated around 5 when it first came out and then last night around 11 it prompted me to update again. But my wife's pre when I did the update for her had the issue above - asking to "just restart" and the next thing it did was to ask her to sign in to her palm profile as if it was a new phone??? It looks like all the personal settings are lost and all homebrew apps are gone too...

Exact same problem. I got the alert, apparently I recieved the email because it has the subject available - however I cant get in to read the email, and my "comcast" heading can't be expanded to view the inbox, trash, deleted anymore.
Is this just with Comcast?

I've seen a few issues with exchange and email sync post but I have not experienced them.
I use exchange and have no issues, I am also not experiencing issues on my gmail IMAP.
Secondly, I have seen issues with the location services being off. When I turned off GPS I was off by about 1 mile, not too bad. When I turned it on, my location was absolutely perfect (and I'm indoors).
Everything seems to be working perfectly from what I have tested. The phone seems faster and web browsing is better.
Noted issues for me:
App Storage: They still haven't fixed the app download issue. I have no idea how they can sell apps if I cannot add any apps to the the Pre. My wife and I have stopped even looking at the official catalog. If it's not in Preware, it doesn't exist to us.
My Tether: I didn't uninstall this before update, I am running 2.01. It didn't work after install, I then reinstalled it via the installer and it works fine.

But after all, this is a first generation phone. They will include some of these features as updates roll out and I pray that they fix what they broke. I have faith in this as I came from a TP which in no way is as streamlined as the Pre. If you really want to grumble, go buy a TP and play with it for a few hours.....it will frustrate you into oblivion figuring out WHY in the world it just crashed and having to soft reset just because you hit send.
But I will not make excuses for palm or the Pre. I will just sit back patiently and hope the old features get fixed and new ones arrive. If not, then my next trade in on a phone won't be a palm. Simple as that.
|
LOL, I actually did get a TP before the pre. Didn't like it at all. The screen was way to small for the UI. Now the Pro2, that is a beautiful phone!
If this is trying by Palm, it's a pretty pathetic attempt. I would like to know why they are not improving functionality, but instead are making counter-intuitive changes to the UI that are completely un-needed. You shouldn't have to "pray" that they improve the phone. The reality is that it should've been there from the start, and really, if the funtionality is present in the code, why wasn't it streamlined so as to allow its implementation? This update is completely disappointing.

1) I am posting this using my pre. I'm sure you've all experienced the 'feature' that zooms the screen into the area you are typing. Great idea, except that when you're sentence reaches the edge of the screen, you can no longer see what you are typing. I have to double-click on the area to bring it back to the normal view.
2) before the update I could have multiple web pages up and switch between them easily. Now, however, each time I swipe from one page to the next, the page refreshes itself. Every time! This really bugs me, since I often have multiple pages up and like to bounce between them quickly. Now when I switch, I have to wait for it to refresh.
3) has anyone else noticed the scrolling seems to be overly touch and jumps all over the place? I will be scrolling up or down, and it's like it gets stuck in a rut and pulls to the left or right.
4) On the scrolling tip, the checkerboard also seems much worse when quickly scrolling.
I do have more, but I think this is fine for one post. I have been a pre user since day one, and it is these and other small annoyances that are really driving me crazy. I've looked past the build issues, since it is a first release. I completely understand the lack of apps at startup. I've even waited patiently for more functionality to come with updates. But seriously, what is the excuse here?!? We have homebrew patches covering many of the gaps that the pre SHOULD'VE HAD FROM DAY ONE and this is the update we get? Palm KNOWS what is missing, and what our hacks are allowing, and still they offer bs updates. Lets get with it guys. Say what you will about the iphone, but it is much smoother than this.
Sorry for the rant. Maybe I'm the only one with these issues. If so, thanks for reading.
|
Yes, yes, yes. The form field auto zoom is a great idea for pages where the form field isn't big enough to see what you're typing. But if the text box IS big enough to see what you're typing, why zoom to the point where you can't see the whole form field? Worst part is it also does it for select boxes - so if you're navigating via a drop down or filling out a form with drop downs the page "autozooms" to make it fit.
Thus my new JayZ-inspired signature. DOA: DEATH OF AUTOZOOM!
