Playing with it now. They're neat. Sucks that you have to already know what's in the /stuff/bml directory though. Would be better to be presented with a selectable list. Unless I'm missing something here.

the point is that you can load ANY animation with this. The ones on my host are just some (kinda crappy) samples. If people create good ones in 26x18 I will add them to the built in animations.

Posted version 1.0.0 which is the version I have submitted to the app store. This version is mostly a maintenance release with tweaks, minor bugfixes and optimizations.
This application expires on November 1 2009 after which it will hopefully be available in the app store for only $0.99. If it's not in there yet by that time I'll post another expiring beta.

Small update: Screamager has been Palm approved and is queued for release into the app store.
Current beta will expire on November 1 after which I hope you'll all buy it for only 99 cents

Anyone who likes this app, feel free to give me a nice review because it's currently kinda being trashed for things that are in fact a WebOS problem and not a Screamager problem

That link shouldn't be there. This is a PreCentral bug. The app is available in the Palm App store on your phone, not through PreCentral. The homebrew entry does say it's available through the app store.

im using GSm Palm Pre 1.1.3 and there is no App Store! there is Apps Catlog and there is no Screamager found init!
it is not free app, right?

@wilsondm2 I tried many optimizations but the culprit is garbage collection. I know that when you switch off garbage collection (I opened a thread about how to somewhere else on the forum) the app runs WAY better. Therefore I think once Palm fixes this problem the app will run just fine.
@webostech I haven't planned vertical text scrolling. However at the moment nothing stops you from creating your own BML animation that involves vertical scrolling.
Finally, what do you want to know about the algorithm? Screamager is pretty much a full blown dot matrix display that can show frame-by-frame animations. In that respect it's much more advanced than for example ScreamIt which merely scrolls text. When Screamager scrolls text it does so from a generated animation sequence which simply happens to contain text.
In the future I'm thinking of adding 'mirrored' as a feature so you can signal with it to people that see the message in their rear view mirror.
