Dems, repubs...does it really matter?
The tetter-totter power grabs by these two corrupt parties makes me sick. It also saddens me to see so many partisan hacks blindly defend their corrupt party of choice. As long as these two parties have legions of die-hard supporters nothing will change for the better.

Thanks for the long generalization....
Funny thing is I can't think of ONE organization that has a membership of over 50 that does not have some type illegal (or immoral) activity by a member.
I say we an option:
1) keep the parties but nuke all humans.
2) Take the best and move on....
We can't pick another party since they will become just as messed up as the two we have now....

Things would be better if the hacks on either side would not tote the party line no matter what, let these politicians they can not get away with whatever they want.. Way too much hypocrisy in politics

Okay... I know you are begging someone to ask:
So what is your solution?

It's come to the point where no one should stick to a party, I see no reason why a person can't be aligned with one since there are some differences in the belief foundations. Like abortion or gun rights. But, to vote across the board for one party is just nuts. It would be nice to vote everyone out of local, Parish, County, State and Federal and just start over. Yet, We all know it can't happen. The best we can hope for is that we all vote and support the people of ANY party the we believe will represent our beliefs and hopes until that person no longer listens to their own people and then vote a new representative.

Far as what each party stands for, I see no difference. Each spend gobs of money.
We can vote everyone out of office... start a movement. But not everyone will want to kick everyone in office out to the street. Who would you replace them with? Really...

Here's the problem: the majority of Americans think Congress is doing a lousy job and should be kicked out of office. At the same time, a sizable chunk of the population also thinks their local representatives are doing a good job--sizable enough to keep voting them back into office, that is. So we have a disconnect. Just like health care: most Americans think the state of health care in America is in disrepair. At the same time, most Americans are happy with their own health care. Same with the economy: most people think the economy is doing poorly but most people think they as individuals are not doing that badly.
So, is it really that our politicians are doing a rotten job? Or is it that, since we have two parties, there's always one party bashing the other party and public perception is that they're both doing badly?

I agree with the OP. They have basically become the same party. These side issues of gay rights, abortion, guns are hot buttons for the voters. They push them, they play on our fears and we vote them in or out. If you think the will of the people is at the core of either side you are blind which is what they want. Corporate America and their lobbyists really hold the cards because in the end they have the money.
What can be done? Term limits would be a great start. But being inclusive of third, fourth and fifth parties are more important. The real beginning of changing the system is reforming how campaigns are financed. I don't see that happening, as Congress would never go for it. Same could be said of term limits.

You hit it on the head. Most changes have to be voted on by congress and why would they vote for a change once they are in? Heck even I would like to vote for my own pay raise.

Agreed, that is why both parties are pretty much the same as far as financial and business policies are concern. Big money backs which ever candidate that looks like they will win. So which ever party that gets elected is beholding to the same masters. What we need is a Theodore Roosevelt.

And the first "Big money business" we'll need to break up is the Federal Government. This will begin in 2010 with the backswing of power in Congress. I predict that Obama will be a one term President like Carter. We can't afford him, and there will be some major messes, both fiscal and international, to clean up. I wonder if Palin will be available.....

The solution has been in place for 200 years: the 10th Amendment. It's just been ignored for too long.
The federal government has slowly increased it's power and influence, leading to a disconnect from the citizens. Make the issues more local and you'll see more accountability.

The Federal Government is way way out of control.
