Default Just saw the Vaio P Lifestyle Netbook

I saw a Sony Vaio P Lifestyle Netbook in the store yesterday.

Oh my God--it's so beautiful and light!! (It's nicknamed the "klutch" because it's aimed at women who can put it in their purses.)

It's small--but the keyboard is fantastic! (Sony eliminated the touchpad for that horrid button mouse--but it allows for the small rectangular shape.)

As with most things Sony, it's wildly expensive ($900 to $1400 depending on the memory).

Oh...but it's so beautiful...I love you, Lifestyle...

P Series

Yeah, it's quite impressive for its size and weight. Much smaller and lighter than any netbook out there.

Major problem for me was trying to use that mouse button in the middle of the keyboard. Will take lots of practice.

Also, at its highest screen resolution, the text was so tiny, my eyes had to be within 15 inches of the screen! I have 20/20 vision too!

Surfing the internet of the device was pretty good. I wish I was able to test out other functions like the built-in GPS, but various functions were locked down at the Sony store.

If it only cost around $500 dollars, I might be tempted to buy one. But at $899, it's too pricey in my opinion.

Yes, I agree about this device being a "purse netbook" for women! You should have seen all the multicolor models, plus the purse-like cases available!

Ugh, I hated the keyboard on the Vaio P. The moment I saw it in the Sony Style store in Glendale (CA) I was ready to drop the $900 they were asking for it -- until I tried the keyboard. My hands are pretty average sized for a male, but I couldn't imagine using that keyboard for more than 30 minutes.

It's a sweet device - I think I'll go pick one up...

Just to let you guys know, I've seen the $899 model at Frys Electronics. The Sony Metreon store a couple weeks ago was immediately sold out of their initial stock. It appears this is a hot item.

I hate Vista, however. It slows EVERYTHING down. I think Sony is promising Windows 7 to whomever buys its Vista laptops now.

How long before Sony marks down new technology? $900 is a little crazy.

yup its too pricey. Anything more than $500 is not a netbook in my book.

A gazillion dollars vs. $300, No touchpad, no XP (vista), no normal speed Atom CPU ??? (1.3Ghz vs. the 1.6 everyone else uses)

No thank you.

Why would Sony stick a ******** Atom with an OS like Vista ?? And then price it like a Gucci purse ?? ...

What can this bantam weight fashion accessory do that my Asus 1000H or MSI Wind cannot do -- for a third the cost ??

I have not handled one. but maybe its constructed with unique physical sensual powers that like an Athenian Siren, can seduce even a cynic like BARYE -- if he gets close enough to touch one. (if as you say they are selling out of them, perhaps this explains it.)

The Vaio P reminds me alot of the Mac Air -- when it got introduced everyone salivated over it -- had to have it -- it was oh so sexy -- but most folks who took her home seem to have regretted it in the morning.

When it comes to my hardware, practicality has precedence over fashion.

I have a particular problem with the aspect ratio of the display. I have a TZ and the wide (HD) display is quiet distracting and irritating to use, and this one is even more wider that one. I feel the 4:3 aspect ratio is visually pleasing and optimal to use with most applications. The move towards wider format displays appears to be a marketing gimmick.

Unfortunately, all the reviews I've read of the Vaio P talk about the lag in everything--which rules it out for me.

Fantastic form factor though. Not enough to pay $1000.

The Sony store at the Metreon Theater in San Francisco just went out of business a couple/few weeks ago. I guess not enough of you bought the new Sony netbook! I heard the Sony Playstation store at the Metreon may have also went under too.

I got to play with the P a little at the Orlando, FL SonyStyle store. It was a neat little device but there was a problem with the one I played with. They were trying to figure out what the cause was when I walked away.

The good news is that the other four or five units seemed to work just fine, but I didn't test them too thoroughly because I'd gotten tired of them after wasting time with the defective unit.

I wish I'd known about the built-in gps functionality, at the time. I'd have tested them more thoroughly. The gps factor would've been a big part of my decision. We'd already left, though, and I wasn't going back.
