I cannot understand why anyone would glorify such colossally rude behavior. A wedding is one of life's most sacred events how can anyone glorify this? Watching TV during the ceremony? How old was the person who supposedly did this? Twelve?

Just because its "one of life's most sacred events" to the bride and groom does not mean its a massive drag to the hubby who never wanted to be there and probably does not know anyone there. Life's full of piles of immensely boring events, and weddings is just one of them. Anyone preaching is another. Children's school plays is a third. I could go on.

I doubt anyone is going to die of boredom taking an hour out of their lives to show some respect to the happy couple. It may not be important to some that were invited, but to the Bride and Groom it's one of the most important days of their lives and it deserves to be treated as such. I don't think anyone would even consider watching TV during a funeral...

Give the guy a break, there isn't one single straight man in the world that actually enjoys weddings, much less wants to be at one.

The real rude part was scheduling the wedding during Final Four week.

EDIT: For some reason, I always make really long posts. The basic summary of my post is "Who are you to point a finger and judge someone else? You aren't without your own sins". And if ya'll care, you can read the rest.

1. You sound like you've taken personal offense to the story posted on the blog. Were you one of the people getting married or something? I understand that some people think it's rude, but to go and make a thread about it in the manner that you have doesn't make you look much older than twelve yourself. In a sense, you sound like one of those kids who is all too happy to go and taddle tale about something even when it doesn't actually affect you directly. Basically, it's none of your business, and Jeff Finkelstein can watch his slingbox anytime he pleases. Now whether or not it's appropriate to do so depends on the people in his immediate surroundings, not some random person on the internet that felt like drawing attention to himself and to Jeff's behavior.

2. The point of the post was not to glorify the watching of the TV at the wedding, it was to point out how convient and entertaining the the Treo was for him. You make it sound as if the entire post was some massively hyped and publicized guide on entertaining yourself at weddings you didn't want to go to. He didn't focus on the wedding part, he focused on the Treo/slingbox part, there was no "glorifying" of any behavior in the blog post.

3. Like Surur said, people get stuck at events they don't want to attend. Now we don't know the exact situation with the wedding, but it isn't unfair to say that the football game is more important to Jeff than a wedding that he may not be interested in attending.

4. I didn't see you post any comments on the blog. If you feel so strongly, why didn't you at least let it be known on the blog? Sounds kinda pointless if you're going to feel so strongly about something and then not directly tell the person you feel that way.

Personally, I do think that watching TV on your phone at a wedding is rude (although it's not the rudest thing that could be done at a wedding), but unless it was disturbing the wedding, I wouldn't make a fuss about it, and I certainly wouldn't make threads online about someone watching TV at a wedding, especially if I wasn't at the wedding or in any way affected by it.

He better hope the couple doesn't read his blog, or that it get back to them...

Knowing how involved with sports some can be, if he shouted out comments about the game while the ceremony was going on... he'd be dead meat.

He broke the cardinal rule about such behaviour... acknowledging to any living soul that he did it!

Rev: Would you say something after the ceremony, or stop the ceremony right there and embarrass the dude in front of the congregation?

It sounds like something they would try on that new TV program "The Real Wedding Crashers", where the Pastor took a call during the ceremony- but the bride and groom were in on it (and were probably murdered soon after by their parents).

And Munk: Straight guys who hope to score with the bridesmaids may like weddings...

And I'm sure the groom who is looking forward to getting lucky is interested.

I am the best man at my brother's wedding this weekend. I can't stand his fiance. My wife is not going because she is due in 2 1/2 weeks and our doctor has basically put her on house rest (instead of bed rest.) Anyhow, I am bringing my treo, but will not be watching movies....Is it rude that at his bachelor party his friends were getting emails for work at 11 on a sat night? They all haveBB's anyway......enough ranting.

My guess is that those of you who don't realize that there's something wrong with this are: male, unmarried and under the age of 25. Some things transcend our need to be entertained; isn't anything more important than our immediate amusement? My parents told "me boredom is a state of mind." It's a choice.

As a point of fact I doubt that this supposed event ever happened; what bothers me is the choice to glorify rudeness and insensitivity for the sake of marketing not whether it ever happened. I feel that this type of marketing only serves to "normalize" the behavior. Tha'st my deal and I'm stickin' to it!

Its a pretty safe bet a TreoCentral user is male (notwithstanding out few ladies on the board), but I believe the rest of your characterization is way of. How is a wedding enhanced by us paying more attention to it? Maybe we are just not emo?
