Default Best Video Bitrate/FPS for Palm Pre?

I use Any Video Converter Any Video Converter - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.comto scale the video on my pc down to 480x320 for my pre. I just tried mpeg-4, 128 bitrate, and 30fps and it digitizes during busy scenes. any suggestions. I'll lower the specs down until the pre's processor will play it clean throughout and post my findings.

Also
do you think the pre would handle H.263, H.264, or mpeg-4 best. Sorry if i'm being to picky.

ty

UPDATE: It was never the processor of the pre that couldn't handle the video. it was the video conversion on my pc. i up'd the Video Bitrate to 768 and FPS to 25 and the video looks significantly improved. Only downside is the file went from 68mb to 300mb. Oh well. quality over quantity.

I'm learning... albiet slowly.

The digitizing is coming from the scaling before i transfer the video to the pre. I've tried a 64 bitrate and 25 fps - no success.

I'm actually surprised at the relative lack of "How do I convert my videos to work on the Pre?" threads around here.

Much to my surprise, videos formatted for the Zune using "Free Zune Video Converter 1.0" (MPEG4, H.264/AAC) play perfectly on the Pre and don't need to be transcoded. I like this program because it's dead simple, allows all the customization I need and can batch process multiple files at once--just queue up a bunch of files, check your settings and let it fly.

I've been converting videos for the Zune at 500kbit/s, 25fps. Not being an expert by any stretch, I think the files look fine with surprisingly little artifacting given the low-ish bitrate (a bitrate this low would've looked horrid on my old PSP). A 60 minute file works out to be about 320MB using these settings.

Search again. There were plenty of threads on converting video to the Pre.

Many liked VLC, while I prefer DVD Catalyst 3.

I use Magic Video Converter and use the 3GPP+AAC General Setting, with the QVGA High Quality 15fps Stereo profile. Plays perfectly on my Pre and is small enough that I can carry an entire season of a TV show, or several movies at the same time.

45 min of video = 90-120MB, depending on the quality of the source. Example: Entire series of HBOs Deadwood (3 seasons) = 5.04GB

I've trial/error a few different DVD rips onto my Pre, and I find a bitrate of 500-ish, at 480x320, to look pretty dang decent. Seems to be the sweet spot between file size and quality. MP4, H.264, ACC of course....
