Default Delete texts and now no conversations?

I was wondering if anyone had this problem. I recently deleted all of my text conversations and restarted my Pre. When I went back to the messages app i saw thatg the conversations menu said "you have no conversations". I figured this looked normal.

However, when I started texting someone else and when performing the back gesture found that even when this person responded to my texts the home messaging app still shows "you have no conversations". Has anyone noticed this problem? I did notice someone else having this problem on another thread but no one I saw had responded to that bug yet.

Thanks ryleyinstl but this fix does not seem to be working for a particular contact that I texted very frequently. I tried both deleting the contact/reentering their information as a new contact, and linking/unlinking their profiles and now I cannot even text this person at all!!!

I think that deleting the contact before trying the link/unlink workaround is what caused the problem. Now when I go to the messaging app and attempt to start a new conversation with this contact the messaging app seems to freeze up. When I perform the back gesture to look at the conversations home screen the text I tried to send does not show up and I also found that contact I tried txting does not receive the text either. It seems that the problem is I am not able to text this particular contact because when I attempt to send a text, the Pre is trying to pull the text history for that phone number, and since this particular contacts texting history is so long the phone is getting frozen up. Therefore, I tried sending a text last night and leaving the messaging app running to see if it was just going to take a long amount of time to pull up the text history for that client. However, this did not work as I woke up this morning to find that the text had still not gone through and the messaging app looked like it was still attempting to either send the message/or pull the texting history and then send the message.

I am going to try calling sprint support but I am at a loss at how this could happen on a next gen smartphone? It is unacceptable that I am unable to send a freaking text message because of this bug!!!

P.S. I was able to send texts to other clients that did not have long text histories. So I am almost totally convinced that this problem has something to do with the messaging app trying to pull text history for particular contacts.

Sorry I don't have any experience with this problem myself. However I totally agree with your take on it being unacceptable. Especially considering that the linked contacts synergy thing is one of the big selling features.

I went to the official Palm Forums to see if this issue had been mentioned there and found that a partial erase was the only real solution. That really bumbed me out. However, after doing a partial erase I have to say that it is not as bad as I thought it would be. I mean palm backed up nearly everything for me and I had with no issues. That was probably because it was only a partial erase, but oh well... I was really wonderfully surprised at how painless a partial erase was. Best of all, the partial erase worked and now I am a texting machine again!

I've come across this problem 3 times since I've gotten my pre. Partial erase does the trick every time

There should be a fix for this. A partial erase is a quick fix, but this should not happen. This happened to me as well.

I frequently text a specific person. After a time, the messaging app would freeze on that contact, so I deleted the conversation, which stopped the freezing. When new messages to/from that contact came in/out, they did not appear in the conversations view. I must either immediately reply or do a global search within messaging to find the conversation. Additionally when entering the 'hidden' conversation, the whole stream of messages was available and was not erased as it should have once the conversation was deleted. It seems it is cached or is trashed, but still available... kind of like replying to a message in the trash in gmail.

Now searching for a better fix.

Yea I tried finding a better fix to this, as I scoured every thread from multiple Palm Pre sites to find a workable solution. But according to the official Palm Forums this is a known issue and the best fix is a partial erase.

I had the same problem of text conversations disappearing. I could send a new text to the person, and after it sent, it'd show all the previous conversations, so it was there somewhere. But if I went back to the main messaging screen, the person's name wouldn't be there.

So, I tried deleting the phone number of the contact in question. Thinking that maybe the defective messaging file was attached to that number, and that wasn't why it would go away completely. So, I did that while the conversation was still open. Then clicked on Done to save it. Flipped back to the conversation and swiped back to see all conversations. Voila, there was the conversation, now with just the phone number in the place where the name was. Flicked back to the contact, re-added the phone number, saved. Flicked back to the list of conversations, and the phone number has been replaced by my contacts name...

Weird, but it works.

It's still annoying though that this still happens, even after several months and multiple updates...

Just had the same problem...and to AZACK, A partial erase will lose all the homebrew apps, if I understand it correctly...but that's not a problem. Just redownload.

I had this issue and this fix did not work for me. However, deleting the contact and re-entering a new contact with the same issue solved the problem. After adding a new contact the conversation came back into the messaging app. It sure beats doing a partial erase.
