Morgan Keegan & Co. analyst Tavis McCourt said last month that Palm needed to sell 5.5 million units in a year to revive its profits. In keeping things simple, 5.5 million divided by 12 months equals 450,000 units average a month. Pre will possibly hit the 1 millionth sale in just over 2 months ( ~ 70 days).
I am assuming the potential intial shortage of the Palm Pre will offset the mass purchase rush of euthansiets like you and me 1:1. I am no expert, but Ashok Kumar, an analyst with Collins Stewart is, with his less-then-steller view of Palm and the Pre. He thinks these sales figures are "highly unrealistic."
2 million Pres sold in the first year equals out to 170,000 units a month and the 1 millionth sale in ~ 170 days. I know it doesn't take a genius to put these numbers together, but it does provide a pretty good window.
