Which Treos did Rubinstein Cancel?
Remember that quote from the New York Times article that I reported on yesterday? See below:
Quote:
|
Mr. Maes had loaded his backpack with about 30 different devices to show Mr. Rubinstein. And for three days, Mr. Maes said, Mr. Rubinstein questioned the team on the devices. After listening to their explanations, Mr. Rubinstein canceled several Treos in development. It was a tough session because Mr. Rubinstein thought there were too many products. He demanded design changes in phones only months from release.
|
The most interesting thing about that quote is this:
Mr. Rubinstein canceled several Treos in development
I'd sure love to know what Treos got canceled!
What do you think?

I think he missed the 800w one..lol Seriously, how did he think it'd look to 800w buyers to release such a dramatically better looking device with improved battery just a month or two later?
I'd be kinda upset to be honest if i had bought the 800w recently

I purchased the 800W and i was mildly upset until I saw the details price (unless your rich $600 for this is insane when other phones similar are so much cheaper) , Its not on Sprint (Hell no will I give up my cheap plan with Sprint) and the features are the same as the 800W basically speaking so now I am thrilled about the Pro since it shows just what the Nova can be. Very excited for Mid 2009. Hopefully the Nova is not $600 (After Sprint rebates) and its on a carriier othewrwise my 800W will keep rockin.

Why?
I'm on sprint and I'm not giving up sprint to move to ATT... the Treo pro does not look to be offered on sprint anytime soon.
To answer the OP:
I'm not sure it matters which one was canceled... no one will know for sure, unless they have some inside information.
I would venture to say that I'd bet that at least 20 of those canceled treos were Palm OS 5 devices.

I doubt they were completely new models, probably just different versions of what's been released, i.e. Centro, 800w and 850w.

Almost like the same crap they pulled with the W and then WX, atleast that time the difference was just memory.

If he approved the 800w with (1) weak battery, (2) dim, recessed screen, (3) poor speaker & BT audio, (4) thick --
I'd love to see the ones he rejected!

Agreed - I took my 800w back on day 29 and didn't even know about the 850 at that point. I'd feel really sc***ed if I was stuck with the 800w and then saw the 850!!!
