Fast-mode Blazer for 650!
Hey there,
Behold! Here is the new format Blazer similar to that on the upcoming 700p. It has Fast-mode, which has the option to disable Cascading Style Sheets. Performance is much better & more sites are viewable! There is a known issue w/ downloading using this version.
Confirmed to work with 1.20 ENA, 1.20 LAP, 1.20 APR & 1.17 Cing. Does *NOT* work with 1.13a Sprint or 1.13 ROW. Untested w/ the rest.
Must be installed to a custom ROM. Need to replace all BlazerApp_xxx & BlazerRsc_xxx files in your ROMs using Shadowmite's T650 ROM Tool. Only need to add what languages are installed.
** Added the ROM file NetFrontLib_Device.prc from 1.20 ENA. This is the Renderer for Blazer. This is the same version as the Life Drive. If your not using 1.20 s/w & your file size is not 1,345 KB, then you can use this one.
http://rapidshare.de/files/13841305/NetFrontLib_Device.prc.html
** Added the old Blazer ROM files from 1.20 ENA. To run side-by-side, create a folder on SD at PALM/Programs/ZLauncher/Apps/ called Blazer_Old. Copy the downloaded files to this folder. With card in the Treo, browse to Blazer_Old in ZLauncher & create a shortcut. You should now have 2 program icons; one to each Blazer. This has been confirmed to work w/ ZLauncher. There is a known issue where Blazer prefs are lost going from one version to the other. Thanks to frioman.
Thanks to Jamesgangut, MFB, gfunkmagic, Berdinkerdickle & gtwo for their help!

Reason: Added NetFrontLib_Device.prc, added Old Blazer files

Boy you guys move fast on releasing this and then the custom roms! lol
Too bad about Sprint...I'm a little tired of old 4.0 here.
Then again, doing two custom roms in one week may be a bit much for me (that's what I say to compensate).

We thought it best to try it for a little while before posting just to make sure.

Has the root of the increased battery drain on 1.20 been discovered yet? That's the only reason I'm not upgrading.

Is anything else about this new Blazer better? I don't care much about this fast mode if all it does is strip stuff off a page as I mainly browse mobile-friendly sites, anyway. Does this Blazer keep pages cached so that you can leave the app and then return to it and not wait for it to reload a page? That's the main reason I've been using Xiino lately.

OKay, i put it in there and it's working well although i can't say i notice a significant increase in performance. How does disabling cascading style sheets help the performance? what is cascading style sheets? please explain someone....

If you just check the box for "Disable Cascading Style Sheets", you should notice quite a boost.
I left the "Don't Download Images" unchecked. I Like pics.
Also, Do a dslreports, should notice higher numbers.
It does handle cache well, but nothing like Xiino w/ the page immediately available.

To Quote Cranium:
Cascading style sheets are used in web page formatting. They are what really make the page's presentation nice, but aren't really useful w/ mobile browsers. Mobile browsers have their own limited rendering capabilities. Removing css will disable the overhead in rendering the page twice. My opinion, the key to Fast-mode.

OK I have never installed or created a custom rom before so can someone tell me how to speed up my blazer in a semi easy way. I am computer literate so I will understand most things. Thanks.
