Shorter Treo 650 antenna - Estimated shipping date - First week of Nov.
UPDATE: NOW TAKING PRE-ORDERS (10/28/2006)
http://www.treoantenna.com
In the last few months I have checked to possibility of producing a shorter antenna to replace the bulky one that always breaks off the Treo 650.
You can see my concept here:
I'm now finalizing the design and I would like to get some feedback as to how many of you would buy this product.
I would also like to know what you think the cost of such a product should be.
Thanks,
zoti

Looks like it will cover the infrared, which I don't care about. Will it cover the sim door on the gsm version?

It will not cover the infrared or anything else. It will be just like the original antenna but much shorter.
From tests done so far it will not change the reception on the phone.
For now, this is only for the Treo650.
Thanks for the replies. Please keep'em coming.

a profit margin of 10 USD above the costs would probably be a fair price

I like this idea. How hard it is to get the OEM antenna off?

Just one screw (trox) and it's out. Then slide the new one in.
I would also like to know if you will be replacing your antenna because it's broken or just because you like the looks of the new antenna.

depending on price, I'd be interested.
I'd be doing it 'cause I like the look of a shorter antennae.

I would buy it if it improved reception vs. the stock antenna. The cosmetic difference would not be a factor in my decision. Thanks for your work in improving the Treo 650.

If reception is equel to, or better than the existing antenna then I too am also interested. Heck, if the price is reasonable I'll take 3 of em, 2 Sprint and 1 Cingular.
What is your anticipated time frame to bring these to market?

Add me to the list! I would buy one for my Cingular 650, for cosmetic reasons only.
