Well, I just sent up my .mac account for every hour, but of course it isn't hard to check more often if you need to. Other than during the time period I've described, I haven't really had any problems with VersaMail and crashing. Again, even the MemoryMgr.c crashing problems that would reference VersaMail were, I suspect, indicative of a deeper hardware problem.
Worse news on the tech phone conversation, though. My advice would be: a) set aside a good 30 minutes, and b) importantly, IMMEDIATELY request a Treo 650 technician. I dealt with Sprint (that's where I got my phone, not from Palm Tech), but these problems are specific enough to the Treo that it's going to take talking with someone who actually knows and understands what the ##377# and ##786# codes and "hard reset" and "VersaMail" mean.
Incidentally, I've pretty universally found that tech support, at least for Sprint, knows not anywhere as much about the Treo as the people on this board -- which is perhaps reasonable, since everyone on here has or is interested in a Treo, and they've got numerous phones to deal with. But it does require some patience.

The first time I called Palm, back in March, I waited for 2.5 hours (literally!) and then just hung up. A week later, I called and I was on-hold for 30 mins before a CSR picked up (this was when she told me she'd send a replacement and I never got it).
I'm going to call Palm and get a replacement as soon as I have 30+ minutes to deal with that crappy company...
If you get a replacement, post back so I know what to expect and what to tell them.

ddahorton, thanks for confirming with us that it's a hardware/RAM issue...good to know we're not the only ones having this annoying issue.

Only 1 restart in last 24 hours...but no Chatter :(
Since my last hard reset yesterday, I have only had 1 restart in 24 hours:
1:30 am while running "MMNotify":
MemoryMgr.c,
Line:3732, NULL handle
I have almost all of my applications reinstalled and it's been stable. My problem is that I really use my email instead of Text Messaging and hate having to go to Versamail & click the <Get> button to check email. I'm playing with ActiveSync, but it doesn't seem to work right. I had new emails and Versamail was set to check every 30 minutes, but I never got an email notification in Versamail
I miss Chatter and was too busy today to try tech support. Does anyone have the phone number handy? Maybe tomorrow morning would be good for me.
Koolio, while I am happy to have MOST of my apps working, getting "push" email seems like a BIG part of my Treo functionality and utility.

Okay...I started using ActiveSync and I get a reset with this error:
11:01 pm while running "<unknown application>":
VFSDBCache.c,
Line:8747, failed to create/open dbcache reserve file
Um, what's that?! Where's the tech phone number please?

MacUser, I got off the phone with Palm Tech Support about an hour ago and they said I should have my replacement within 3 - 5 business days. To be honest, I'm skeptical...last time I called, in March, they said they'd send me one and they never did. I never followed up b/c I fixed the issue I was having. This time, at least, I got an order number (but it's not recognized by the order status on Palm's website) and they asked me for my credit card number (in case if I don't return my defective unit) so I feel a bit better.
I also asked the CSR if they've had a lot of calls relating to the memory manager crashes and she said that she's heard about it and it appears to be a "manufacturer's defect." I was very surprised she actually admitted it...or, she was just bs'ing me.
Oh, and Palm's tech support number is: (877) 426-3777 (for the unlocked GSM Treo)
I'll post back if/when I receive my replacement to let you know if it resolves the crashes.

Okay, I'm on the phone with tech support and gave him my painful rundown of hard resets and failures. At first he wanted me to send my unit and then I would get one 5-7 business days AFTER they receive it. I asked about the program where they send me a new one with Hardware B and the guy said I have to pay $25 to do that. Also, he wasn't familiar with Hardware A vs. B ?! Didn't people post that they have Hardware B?
Well, here's hoping the new unit will work.

What is the link to where you check your order number? I have a confirmation number, perhaps that's it?

Yeah, I tried using the "Order Status" link but it didn't recognize my order number, yesterday. I'll give it a try tonight...oh, and I still haven't gotten the email confirmation regarding my replacement unit.
I was on-hold for about 10mins and was on the phone with the woman for about 10mins.
The woman I spoke to didn't ask me to send mine. She just said, that I qualify for the 'Advanced Repair' option where they ship me a replacement and upon receipt, I ship mine back to them.

Ok, my repair number still doesn't work using their "order status"...I'm really starting to think they didn't actually place my order. To be honest, I don't think I've ever dealt with such a POS company as Palm...their support is so horrible.

Well, they took my credit card info, so I'm guessing me they want to charge me the $25 advance exchange fee.
At least I'm really hoping they do...maybe I'll call later.

I've had the same problem for a while with most of the errors mentioned in this thread. I haven't bitten the bullet yet to get a replacement (Sprint) but may do so soon. I can cause the MemoryMgr.c error soon after enabling Chatter. I don't think Chatter is the problem but maybe that app exposes a memory (hardware) defect. Interestingly, if I'm listening to an MP3 (screen on or off) the device remains stable the entire time with Chatter running. The 650 only resets while sitting idle - frequently with Chatter running in the background and infrequently with Chatter shutdown.

People,
Chatter is not the problem. Easy to prove. If you do a HARD RESET, thereby wiping out all applications, resetting it back to stock (with exception to the cell phone's programming), and just let your treo sit quietly for up to 24 hours or until it resets with the "chunk underlocked error," then you have proven it is a defective phone. You do NOT have to enable the wireless or cell transmitter (although feel free to if you need to make/receive calls) to cause the error if your phone is defective. Mine simply reset quite often in this state (with more frequency as time went on).
I took mine into the sprint pcs store and told them it was resetting by itself after a hard reset. They said I ought to try re-flashing the phone with the latest firmware. However, I had already done that (1.12SPCS).
So, that convinced the SPCS store to swap with a refurb. Since getting the refurb (over a month ago) I have had only about 2-3 resets, all I believe caused by VeriChat 2.86b, in one way or another. There have been NO Chunk Overlocked errors. And, BTW, I simply did a backup of all my apps to SD using BackupMan before I swapped out the phone, and immediately restored everything using BackupMan to the new phone as soon as I got it. No errors! Wow!
By the way, is anyone experiencing this Chunk Overlocked problem with firmware 1.08 installed, and never having before upgraded to 1.12 firmware (SPCS)?

I don't think Chatter is the problem either. If anything I think Chatter proves you have a problem. I can't remember for sure if I had this problem with an earlier firmware but I think I did.

My phone was okay once I hard reset and just left it...only 1 chunk error in hours, but as soon as I turned Versamail on with activeSync--bamb, chunks all over the place. And, I'm sorry, but I think having email function on the Treo is something that I MUST have. I called Palm back today and they said my "new" Treo would ship on Monday.
It's going to be a long week...

Hello all! I am a member of the "chunky overlock" problem club! Seriously though...I have been seeing reboots every 15 minutes today, so I finally said the hell with this POS and called Sprint. After reading everything here, I knew it must be a hardware problem...but to prove it I did a hard reset as they make you do, and then try it without apps and then readd slowly... Anyway...no dice. Went to the store, which of course had no tech dude today, so I called support and asked for the retention dept. The girl asked if I was planning to drop my service, and I said "If I can't get some decent support you bet I will!" Talked to a specialist. Long story short...they would not send out a unit first without charging me in full for the new one. I SHOULD be credited when I send the old one back, well...at least I BETTER be credited. In any case, I was done arguing with everyone today so I just paid it up front and will send the old one back. I have wasted enough time with this thing anyway. If the new one does not solve my problem, I am afraid I will have to part ways with the best Smartphone every made. I just can't keep working with constant reboots, as much as I love this phone.
Here's to hoping this is the fix!

gjlowe,
Did you have a Sprint store locally? I know it's a little late now, but with the proper coaxing, they would have been able to get you a replacement.

Yup
One thing that hopefully this results in is a better understanding, on PalmOne's and Sprint's part, of what this "chunk overlocked" problem is (which I agree is typically hardware). There really isn't a good knowledge base about it now and perhaps someone knows how to forward this entire thread to PalmOne and suggest they include it in their tech support database.

I do, but their tech was "not in" yesterday. The truth is, their tech is almost never in, and I am sick of dealing with those *****&^^% at my store. The Rep told me he would be in today, but the techs are usually off on Fridays! Bottom line, I don't get satisfactory service from that store, so I would rather put the charge temporarily on my card and have them ship me a new one. When I send it back, they are supposed to credit me.
