AT&T Service Banner Change Today!
OK...the weirdest thing just happened. I had almost bragged in the "gibberish no-service" thread that I had not experienced the gibberish glitch in my new Crimson 680...with the 64k SIM and network re-registration...
But just a second ago...the gibberish appeared, replacing the Cingular banner!! I turned the radio of the phone off and then on...and it froze on the "Goodbye" screen. Gaaaaahhhhh...!! I was just about to tear my Seidio case off and do a reset...when out of the blue everything was restored...except for the new AT&T banner replaced the Cingular one that had been there previously.
Whew!!! Dang...could they give a guy a warning before they do something like that again??

My Treo 750 just changed from Cingular to ATT the other day. The 650's all still show Cingular...weird...

I remember when AT&T was switching to Cingular a couple of years ago (has it been that long, or longer?). Seems like everybody I knew had their phones switch provider banners before mine did. I just woke up one morning...and it was there. Odd how they do it in sections...

Not odd, IMO. They want to be able to have some degree of control over it and manage the potential problems as much as they can. Can you imagine the potential chaos if they did everyone in the country at once and something went wrong?

You definately have a point...I hadn't thought about that. You could step outside your house and hear all the Treo 680 users screaming " Gaaaaaaahhhh!!!!!" all at once. Not a pretty picture...

Just got the "gibberish text" while driving, did soft reset and no at&t banner just got the cingular banner.

Seems to me that Arctic is cool while Crimson is hot.
white = cold; red = hot. Perhaps it was this play on words that davistld01 was referring too?
