I wish Sprint would make it an easier process like Verizon!

VZW's PRL update is done over the air and never has to talk/beg a CS rep.

Thanks...you got the begging part about Sprint right. One rep even told me why would I bother since the update really doens't mean anything but to save Sprint money...goodness

I'd think it'd help to get you on the right network for EVDO, right?
It is weird how it's such a hassle sometimes.
I don't understand why it's not an option from the web site or why we just can ask Claire...

PRL updates are wiped if you do a hard reset, right?

Did you check to make sure you had the update before you did a soft reset? And why did you do a soft reset after getting the update anyway?

the *2 message said that the download was complete and then it sent me to Claire (I hate her).

To answer the question above, no a hard reset does not reset the prl. It seems to be stored with the radio data.

Here's what I just experienced. After asking for the update I was instucted to dial *2 and follow prompts. I did that 3 separate times. Each time it said update was successful, but PRL version was the same. Tried resets as well. I tried for the 4th time. After it said completed, I let it to continue to dial until I heard Claire. I went to the phone to hang up and noticed a dialog box that said Update was Successful. I had to press OK. Then my phone went off and on, and I see the new PRL.
So the only difference was that dialog box. Not sure if waiting for Claire "finished" up the process or what.

I had to dial *2 about 12 times for the update to work - not until I got the prompt to appear did my PRL # change... Kinda frustrating, but at least it worked!

OK, I've updated my PRL. I can't tell any difference though; I did confirm that the update happened though.
What exactly is this supposed to do?

Before everyone in the forum asked you to 'search' first , here's the Wiki entry on PRL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preferred_Roaming_List

Well it took me 8 tries before the update was successful. On the last try, there was no audio prompts-no sound at all. Just the pop up update window. I was about to hang up.
Good Luck
