Default 700p to 755 conversion (the easy way)

***NOW FIXED***

ok, here is a more simplified way to convert your treo 700p to a 755. for now this is sprint ONLY!

1) download this zip file:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VPMGAJGF

2) extract this zip to a CLEAN sd card. this should leave you with the following two folders on your sd card:

PALM
ROM

3) Insert the SD card into your treo and launch the romupdater from your application launcher. it should say "VENT" and "DVT"

4)Type "ventura" (without the quotes) and press enter

thats it, welcome to your new 755

thanks kokoman for figuring this out

Default Worked, but...

Worked for me, but when I first inserted the SD car in my Treo 700P, no updater files showed up as an application on my SD car or on the Treo.

I opened the SD car in the computer and a new folder "Laucher" had been made on the "Palm" folder on the SD card.

I dragged the two .prc files in the "Palm" folder to the "Launcher" folder (which is in the "Palm" folder) and then the Rom Updater file showed up on my card when inserted into the Treo.

I clicked on the file and ran the updater, which worked

I got it to run too. I did also have to move the two prc's into the \PALM\Launcher folder. I also couldn't figure out how to run the updater for a while. I kept looking for a field to type into or an enter key to be pressing. I finally just typed in "ventura", except I had my cursor at the end of a line, so it gave me an error. I had to move to a clean line at the bottom and type in "ventura" all by itself and then press enter before it entered into update mode.

I did a full restore from an NVBackup and am checking on what differences I see. I've notice the difference in the Messaging app (arrows showing sent vs received messages), seen some new apps/shortcuts (Bejeweled, Get Nuance VoiceControl, IM, Sprint Store). My bluetooth device cache only showed the Device ID's in hex, so I've deleted them all and re-added my Lubix Stereo Headset first. That paired fine and I'm using it with SAG 1.18 & pTunes right now, which still momentarily skips when I switch into Mail or Blazer.

Thanks for rewriting it for me. Hope more people would keep their 700p. It was so expansive and now Palm phases it out with the cheaper and newer software Centro (and forces us to upgrade to Centro or 755p). While lying to us that 700p is different than 755p and that we should switch. (making more money in the way). I liked my 700p because I don't have any microsd card myself.

One more thing: it seems the "My Treo" will "auto update" (like Windows Update)

To turn it off, go to "My Treo", then pull down the menu, select "Update" then turn the 'update' to off

otherwise it will use your data connection to check for updates or will give you an error:

Error: Wireless information submission could not be completed. It will be sent the next time you synchronize. (In your Alerts popup)

Also this is the English only version, there is no Spanish/Esponal

OK, I'm getting an error while trying to do the update. I extracted the files to a clean sd card and there was a Palm with a Launcher folder but no ROM folder. The extracted files were all outside the Palm folder. So I put the two prc files into the Launcher folder, created a ROM folder and put the remaining extracted files into the ROM folder. Running ventura gets me the following error:

Delete Token Success!
The device will automatically reboot after flashing ROM.
Flashing section...error updating:Memory Manager error
Unable to hard reset automatically!
Please manually hard reset the device before updating!
Error (0x0003): Memory Manager error

The update then stops right there. So I was under the impression that we just run this update straight from the card. Or, do I need to do a hard reset before? I've not read that when the folks above did theirs. Ideas?

I have not seen this error before

If your device is still working (ie: flash has not started), try to hard reset then try it again.

put romupdater*.* files in your palm's ram
and \rom\*.* my rapidshare files in sd card

I just did as you said, hard reset, put your files in the ROM folder. I get the same error. So now I'm confused. Not sure what I'm doing wrong...BTW, phone is not bricked, flash never started.

Ok, got it to work! Took the battery out and let it sit a bit. Then put the battery back in, did another hard reset and ran the program from the card. Everything worked this time, glad to say. I see the new apps and such. Am in the process of doing a restore using Resco at the moment. I recall that my Treo acted weird when I did the MR update for the 700p and someone suggested I do the battery thing which worked here as well. Not sure why, but I'm not complaining.

I never upgraded to the 1.1 so I'm tempted. I'm game as long as my tethered hack will still work!! Can anyone confirm?

p.s. to be safe, the steps for a hard reset are what again?

Anybody know if this would switch a Verizon Treo to a Sprint one? You know... in case you wanted to jump service providers later. Also, anyone have any news on a plain Verizon one? Thanks.

It just includes Sprint "branded apps"... or Verizon "branded apps", blazer links etc.

But be aware the DATA part might not work because sprint has IOTA (Sprint Provisioning) on its firmware

Default Worked! But...

Thanks Kokoman & Lovedatreo for all your work!

I was able to get mine to update successfully. I now have access to the Sprint IM feature & all...

But, I'm sad to report that my Bluetooth is still not working the way it should. Maybe this isn't fixable on the Sprint 700P. Whenever I'm listening to my music in the car with the (don't laugh) old cassette adapter, I can't get the headset to pickup. It's almost like it's disabled. Once I unplug from the stereo adapter, I can pickup -- but why should you have to get in an accident just to be able to answer the phone? Honestly, I really don't get Palm sometimes...

Any ideas?

Hi guys been a while since I last posted, but had to chime in on this one. I went a head and did this conversion last night, figured what the heck if it fried my treo I have been thinking about getting a sprint mogul anyway until a linux treo arrives. I must say that this conversion has done wonders for my 700p. Blazer is snappier, switching between apps is quicker, it seems to be a whole lot more stable. Of course time will tell if this is my imagination or not but so far I'm very happy. I will be interested to see if this does anything for battery life. I would like to personally thank those of you who made this work. kudos to you guys

They did away with that "feature" of headset switching when they went from the 650 to the 700. I quote feature because it should have been standard all along.

Yes I also have this problem too. I use lightwav with Call Announce, but when the WIRED headset is plugged in, and a call comes in, the phone would freeze temp. till I remove the Wired headset.. There is a direct all sounds to headset program by toysoft but I have not use it yet.

I would like the phone to announce the call with speakerphone but I answer with WIRED headset. one of the saddest thing that is not able to do even with 755p update. Maybe centro would fix it?
