Default where to begin

Ok guys n gals, I am pretty new to WM and pocket PC's. My last device was a Psion series 5mx so I am not used to all this. Can someone let me know where/how to start customising and tweaking my 750 (WM6) What programs do I need to be able to make use of the add-ons and tweaks listed in this forum?

cheers

First off, welcome to TreoCentral and the world of Windows Mobile.

Second, I highly recommend skimming through the user manual that came with your Treo. That will help familiarize you with the device, OS, and how they work together as well as where things can generally be found in the OS. I'm not saying you should study and memorize, just familiarize yourself.

Once you know where you stand and get an idea of what it can do, you'll have a better idea of what you actually want to customize and tweak.

As for what programs you need "to be able to make use of the add-ons and tweaks listed in this forum", that's kind of a loaded question. This forum covers a HUGE amount of ground. Some of the hacks and tweaks are simple registry changes, some are scripts (which would require MortScript), and some are whole programs themselves.

You'll have to narrow it down to something more specific, like "how do I make my Treo do _X_". If we know what it is you're trying to accomplish, I'm sure someone here can help steer you in the right direction.

How do I make my Treo microwave my lunch?

ok, first off I need a flash player I don't have a sync cable yet so I would prefer one in a cab file as opposed to exe. I can't for the life of me get macromedia flash player to work, any other suggestions?
thanks

First off you can get the "Adobe FlashPlayer 7 for Pocket PC" cab here:

http://download.macromedia.com/pub/f...fp7_ppc_en.cab

edit: full visible link, just add "http://" in front: download.macromedia.com/pub/flash/devices/pocket_pc/installers/fp7_ppc_en.cab

Just point your mobile browser there to download directly to your device.

This will enable flash content in web pages to display on your phone.

Now, if your talking about a stand-alone FLV player, that's a completely different story. I believe the older version of TCPMP is supposed to do it, but I never had much luck playing stand alone FLV files. You're better off converting them to some other media container.

Do you at least have an SD card and card reader? Also, if you have BlueTooth on any of your PCs, you can set up ActiveSync that way without a sync cable.

thanks for that Fastlerner. I will download it later. I do have BT on my pc but I can't get it to Activesync with the Treo for some reason, I can connect the two together no problem but it just won't sync, something else for me to play with later today. As for SD cards, I have two 2Gb cards and a reader. As for getting it to microwave my lunch, will it really do that?

Oh yes. 3G is in the 2 ghz range, just like your microwave (although slightly lower power). Just wrap up a some food and your phone in some tin foil and in about 2 years, it might be half cooked.

Seriously though, if you want to set up BT for ActiveSync, take a look at this thread. Bluetooth file transfer not working???

I tried loading the Adobe Flash mentioned above. Websites I'm visiting that need Adobe Flash are stating that I need to have it on my device. My Treo 750 shows the cab file in the "My Documents" area. Shouldn't it load to the "Program files" area? I've tried directing my Treo's browser to the site above and I've even clicked on it from this page from my Treo. The 750 always states that it's on the device, yet still having problem making it work. Thoughts or advice? Thanks.

You need to go to file explorer, open my documents folder & then click that cab file to install the program to the device. Then it will show on the program file.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, I did try to click on the cab file in my documents. It states that it's loaded on my device. It doesn't show up in the Program Files area afterwards (though again it states that it was loaded on the device) and sites I'm trying to go to that need Flash still won't work.

You may have to browse for the .exe with File Explorer and then create a .lnk to it in the Programs folder.

If you can't find it with the stock File Explorer, Resco Explorer has a find feature
