Listening to music with BT headset on 650
Can anyone help me here. Trying to listen to music using my BT headset (G2) and I don't get any sound at all. If I plug in a regular ear piece, works fine.
Thanks,
Eric

Audio output via BT isn't available on the 650. That requires BT 1.2 and the Treo only supports 1.1. See this support document that lists the BT features.

Actually, it doesn't require BT 1.2. It's all software profile based. My iPaq 4700 (as well as a number of other Pocket PC's) has 1.1 and its bluetooth headset profile works fine for mono sound output. Not so hot for music due to BT's low bandwidth, but great for audio books.
Also, if you get HP's new stereo headphones, you can install an advanced driver that supports full stereo sound output (I think the headphones have some kind of DSP). It's all software and, unfortunately, P1 decided not to give us that functionality.

Also, page 69 of the user manual states:
Quote:
Please note, however, that you cannot use a headset with Bluetooth wireless technology to listen to MP3 files.
If you want to listen to music through the headset jack in stereo, use a stereo adapter or other accessory.

I admit I'm not all that familar with Bluetooth... I was just going by what I read at P1 Support:
Quote:
Treo 650's Bluetooth implementation does not support these Bluetooth profiles:
A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution: playing music wirelessly. This is Bluetooth 1.2, and the Treo 650 smartphone is Bluetooth 1.1)

A2DP is for stereo audio over bluetooth which is bluetooth 1.2, just playing music through a bluetooth headset can be done with the headset profile which the 650 supports. I use this with my laptop on occasion, the audio quality over the headset profile is horrid, but functional.
It just seems like the 650 seperates the audio by some means, it may be possible to create a software solution that allows a bluetooth headset to be used in lieu of wired headphones, but it would sound really really bad.

If the sound quality is that bad, what's the point? I can just imagine the uproar if P1 gave us that option. I know, I know... they should have given us 1.2 and this wouldn't have been an issue, but let's not go there.

Actually, I believe that's the reason palm didn't allow the bluetooth headsets to be used to listen to music. Because I'm sure it wouldn't have been all that difficult to implement.

With freedom will it work? I downloaded the trial from toysoft and it's nice proggy to have. Not sure if it would work with BT though. Someone could try it really quick.

According to prod info page:

Freedom does not work the Bluetooth on the Treo650 but it DOES with the headset.

I agree this sucks. IMO, PalmOne should put BT 1.2 implentation as well into the growing laundry basket of updates needed for the Treo 650...

Is Freedom suppose to work on the 650? It hangs when I select "freedom" mode and when not in "freedom" mode, I often get soft resets.

sxtg? posted somewhere that he bought the jabra a210 adapter (which is BT 1.2) and his BT 1.2 headset and plays mp3's that way (even though he has a T650!). He also has caller id because he has a program that announces who is calling (so he never has to touch his phone to answer). Search for the thread.
I just bought the same setup for my 600. I'll post my results on that thread.

I just ordered an A210 for my 600 too( and i plan to get bluespoon ax), but which software allows for the caller ID to be braudcast? that sounds cool
Also i have heard people using voice dialing on the treo650, is that a function of the 650 or of the sprint network?

Here is a link to the thread where using BT with caller ID:
Treo 600 and Jabra A210 BT Adapater
"Quick summary: I now have audio caller ID through my bluetooth headset using CallFilter and Freedom from toysoft.ca"
"Callfilter's "Announce" feature does say the phone number and i do hear the number. Also, i ffound that using Freedom from Toysoft.ca, allows me to hear Audible and pTunes through by Bluetooth Headset." This was posted by JHETZEL
I havent tried it yet. When I get my a210 adapter and my HS820 headset, I will give it a try.

Bluetake's BT420
http://www.bluetake.com/products/BT420EX.htm
works with their supplied dongle (that streams the A2DP over BT). It also independently doeks as a BT hands free headset.
Unfortunately, it won't switch seamlessly from playing music to answering calls... As far as I can tell.

What phone do you have? I see in your profile you have the 600. Does Freedom even work with the 650?

Okay, if I get the A210 for my 650 and the freedom software, I will be able to use the Voice Dial via my Bluetooth headset?

I saw somewhere in these forums that by using the a210 and a bluetooth headset (think it was the Bluetrek G2, actually) that you can use voice activation on the 650...and listen to music, etc, I think... I ordered an a210 for my hubby but I'm going to test it on my 650...will let you know
