If I was looking over the threads here, I'd be a bit nervious about buying one -- so I wanted to give a few positive words to anyone contemplating the Pro.

Hardware: The form factor is perfect. I switched from a Treo 680 to the Treo Pro, and it's great. I can carry it in my pocket without bulging nearly as much. The keyboard is also fine, and the screen looks great. The flush edges are also nice.

Software: I'm new to Windows Mobile, but kinda embarrassed to admit that I like it fairly well. Admittedly, I'm a fairly sophisticated user (i.e., the idea of multiple running programs, closing tasks, etc. isn't confusing). Novice users who care about graphical 'polish' should go with the iPhone, though. The degree of configurability is a plus to me -- it took a little while to get things just right, but now it's more than satisfactory.

Third party applications: In terms of third party applications, wmwifirouter (which makes the phone operate like a hotspot) alone has been a lifesaver. Support for Skype is also neat.

Stability: I've had one crashes (while installing a program), but aside from that the phone has been solid. The Bluetooth-call-waiting annoyance (which I'm sure will be fixed in a software update), there isn't anything I'm unhappy about.

Anyone else want to comment about what you *do* like about the Treo Pro?

I love the tethering feature. You can plug it into a computer that has no drivers or software installed and surf the net. No software required. that's amazing.

edit:OK I just want to clarify you do HAVE to have activesync or WMDC installed for the tethering to work.

Having everything in such a small package, I even have Tomtom 6 on it and being agle to operate the handset with just one hand is what I love about this Treo.

I have had a lot of different phones over the last 10 years. I am really happy with the Treo Pro.

There were a lot of unlocked phone I could of purchased. I bought the Treo Pro and I am glad I did. I just bought a second one for my wife.

I am not married to any phone vendor. I was tempted by the unlocked HTC phones, but I read all the reviews I could and ended up with the Treo Pro.

It's not a perfect phone, but looking at what's currently available on the market, I find it has the best mix of features and specs. Form factor is near-perfect, weight is excellent, screen (after installing RealVGA to get 320x320) is very nice, speed is fast enough for all apps you throw at it.

Really happy with this device...

It is not perfect but perfectly adequate for my needs (and more)

My Pros & Cons:

1.The call clarity is even superior to the Treo 750.

2. The reception is execellent even in places where coverage is poor to non-existant.

3. The earpiece is quite loud even in the lowest setting.

4 The Speaker is very loud and clear.

5. The processor is much faster than the 750.

6. Great form factor, light and easy to hold

7. The vibrate is loud.

8. The battery life is phenomenal for a WM PDAPhone.

9. The standalone GPS can get a satellite fix quickly and works flawlessly with Google Maps.

10. Sprite Backup came pre-installed.

11. Screen Saver with date and time. It shows missed calls, voicemail, SMS/MMS



Cons:

1. The keys are smaller and more cramped than the Treo 750 and it took me some to get used to.

2. The black finish shows finger prints and smudges boldly.

3. No indication for new E-Mail

4. Micro SD card located under battery door.

5. Soft Reset located under battery door.


The Pros definitely outweigh the cons and I luv the Pro.

Mmm ... maybe these cons can be taken out ...
#3 - Don't you count the standard "Messaging" today plugin as indication for new E-Mail/SMS/MMS ?
#4 - You don't have to remove the battery door. The reset button is accessible to a paper clip by removing the stylus. With practice you can even use the stylus itself to press that reset button.

Oh, I'm happy with my Treo Pro too, especially with RealVGA 96dpi, all my must have freeware applications (cLaunch, TotalCommander, HandyShopper, bLADEwiki, TodayAgenda, PocketIslam, NokiaIntellisync) works well with its 320x320 screen. However, I'm still trying to fine tune my Today Screen to what I'm most happy with ...

I find it's much much better for one handed operations than my previous HTC TyTN II. I didn't realise how much I missed the one handed operations of my old^4 Treo 600, until I started using Treo Pro. Yep, I did really miss the ever ready front keyboard, while using O2XdaIIs (WM2003SE), Dopod838pro (WM5) and TyTNII (WM6) after my Treo 600 (PalmOS).

Past year or so, I did look at a few other devices with front keyboards. But I dismissed them due some reasons or other; (i) i780 with 320x320 but the finger mouse, (ii) iPaq 912 but landscape 240x320 (iv) e71 but landscape 240x320 & symbian os, (iv) blackberry bold with 480x320 but the os.

I figured if I'm going to move away from WindowsMobile on PDAphone I might as well move to open source based OS like Android (when a front keyboard come out) or maybe Palm OS Nova (when the OS actually materialise), in the meantime ...

I love my Treo Pro on WM6.1; almost as much as I love to hold/caress my old^4 Treo 600.

I have to say that in general I agree with you. I was a long time Palm OS user and was dependent on my Treo 650 since they came out.

I recently upgraded to the Pro and to the world of WM and I have to say that my experience hasn't been that bad either. I think with about 1 day to orient yourself to a new way of doing things, its not a bad system (but its not as easy as Palm OS-but you can do more in my opinion). I find it really easy to set up everything (and that is definitely true because I got my Pro in Germany where I am living and the OS is in German not my native language and I am doing great with it).

What made my Pro experience even better and what made the phone's interface even more appealing is SPB Mobile Shell, a fantastic program.

I think some of the minor negative things that I don't like (that haven't been mentioned) is that the off the shelf car chargers don't necessarily work. You have to inform yourself which specific ones work.

I dont like that Acrobat gets stuck in full screen and there is no easy way (at least that I have found yet) to go back without exiting the program completely.

On the call screen, I dont like having a list of all my contacts with the numbers that I recently called all together. I like them separately (call me a order freak if you will).

But in the end, these are all little annoying things. I remember I had a lot of little issues with my 650 when I first got it years ago.

In conclusion, do like like the Treo Pro? the answer is no, I LOVE IT!!!!!!
I would never go back to my old 650 .

Hi, I meant an indication on the screen saver or better yet LED blinking for all messaging.

I tried weith the stylus to reach but couldn't, will try a paper clip next time. Thanks

@palmdoc, yep phenomenal atleast compared to my 750 & QTEK 9100 with standard battery.

I've never had to use anything but the stylus, once you work out where the reset hole is, you just insert the tip of the stylus and press.

Bear in mind that this board is to discuss the Pro, to learn more about how it works, to air possible bugs, and to resolve problems. That happens with any phone, especially a smartphone, as complex as the Pro, that's new on the market. People aren't going to post and say, "I know exactly how every function of my phone works and I don't need any help", are they? Most posts are going to be queries.

But there are only a very small number of minor bugs, nothing really serious whatsoever, and if you look at the discussion forums for most other smartphones (even other Treos!!) you will find them a great deal more critical.

I think anyone looking over these threads carefully will be encouraged.

I appreciate this thread very much. I'm still using my 700p and getting the itch more every day to get something new. I think I've finally come to grips with moving to Windows, but now the tough part is, with which device?

I'm a Sprint user, so my best 2 options are getting the just-released HTC Touch Pro or the soon-to-be-released Treo Pro.

After reading this thread, I'm really thinking I should wait for the Treo Pro. sabre23t's post about how nice it is to have an exposed/front keyboard makes me think I should stick with the Treo. This has always been important to me, as tempting as it is try the bigger screen on the Touch.

At any rate, thanks for the comments.

I'm loving the Treo Pro, it's an huge upgrade from the 750 in every aspect for me.

I will however miss the ruggedness of the 750. I wonder if the pro will be as tough. Right now I'm babying this thing.
