Those who switched from 800W to the Treo Pro
Does all the software that you had on your 800w cross over to the pro without a hitch?
Did the registered software work on the pro from the 800w, or do you have to buy the same program again. Programs like Kinoma?
How did you transfer the programs over, one by one from the memory card or did you restore it to what the 800w was?
Thanks...

Yes to all of your questions. Standalone GPS has been confirmed on the first short release.

The 800w was a 240x240 resolution device, right? The Pro is of course a 320x320 resolution device and there are programs out there that do not support that resolution. For those programs you can install RealVGA (using the 96dpi fonts) to get them to run on the Pro.

I did not restore from an 800w backup- although I thought about it for a second.
Better to start fresh with a new device. I keep all my programs on an SD card- pulled it out of the 800w and into the Pro and started installing.
It is funny because the Pro is so similar to the 800w- I even have the same wallpaper!
I see no compatability issues between the 800 and Pro now or in the future.

Les, I thought the 800 was so great. I remember you defending it like crazy. Seems many are ditching it all of a sudden. Hmm.....very interesting.

You find it suprisingly people switch to a new model? Check out my signature-if I use the same phone for 6 months it is a miracle. Don't be suprised when I get the Pre in 2 months.
The 800 was solid for me and in many ways just as good or even slighly better than the Pro. The battery however is not one of them and I will admit it is liberating to not have to worry about it with the Pro. I recall my comments being more of a equilibrium to the bashing anyway- and did you not tout the blackberry all over the "treo" forum only to switch without notice to a touch pro?
We are all insane!

I have not had any trouble with my old apps yet and I had alot, but have not yet installed them all. I am eager to see if games work better here. A suggestion for new STP users... get and install ebag's RealVGA from here:
Real VGA (Increased resolution, application compatability)
best to install on a clean device (new or right after a hard reset).

I got the TP today (day 1). While I am not a "800 defender," the 800 was not so bad... not perfect (what phone is) but no so bad. However I never had problems enough to send mine back. I think alot of people just want, as close to perfection as they can get. I need WM Pro with a front facing keyboard (not many choices). For me the 800 issues were the audio quality, GPS, battery, and size... in that order. All three have been addressed... so here I am.

I don't know of any WM app that you buy which binds it self to a single device and you must buy a new license if you get another WM device. I guess there is some application like that out there somewhere. Does anybody know what some of those applications are? So I know which to always avoid ever buying .

Understood but for many 800 defenders the battery and GPS were not issues or didn't affect them so they said. An extra battery, punching holes in the earpeice and other items are fixes rather then running to another device on day 1. Just seems the 800 is as bad as many of us said and the proof is evident on the forums currently. That is what I was referring to when I asked Les above. I remember him being a defender.

Heeeeyyyyyy...how do you open an account with sprint with no contract? Everyone I have spoken with says it is not possible. I need a second line but don't want a contract(I have a device already if necessary).
I qualify for a couple of different employee and/or school discounts plans.
Please shed some light for me.

Not only is it not so bad but in my book its better in some ways than the Pro. For starters it has enough memory to actually runs some apps plus it has soft keys and much better keyboard. Did I mention it runs faster as well.
Now that I have got you all going...
There are a few nice things about the Pro such as the Standalone GPS, 3.5mm jack and bigger battery. And since I am a bit of a phone nut I will probably get one
