I don't know what precisely this is or what it does.

EDIT: opens up a Developer Mode switch:
"Turn Developer mode on to turn on Developer Services on the device."
You will need to reboot the Pre to effect your changes.

After having rebooted, I don't see anything obvious.

Haha great easter egg. This will be big. After turning on developer services, have you tried executing anything via the palm:// protocol?

So far, the only way I know how to interface with Novacom is via Java.
Have you tried enabling developer mode and seeing if Novacom behaves any differently?

few things i found interesting.

The open source GPL that for all software include.

Private Browsing option - /etc/palmos/browser.conf
PrivateBrowsing=false

YahooContactSyncService, may show up later, I think it only handles email right now, but looks like contacts are on their way.

I also located both of the sqlite3 databases. One for the os itself, stores contacts, im convos, and pretty much anything that needs to be stored.

There is another that contains all carrier settings. not just for sprint, but for t-mobile and a whole slew of us and international carriers.

These are located in /usr/lib/luna

I just started looking, so we'll see what else i can find.

I'm betting to enable a remote debugger or some such. Try connecting your Pre with the USB cable?

On the Java program front, trying to run some simple commands right now.

I doubt it will. Novacomm will only recognize the Pre when it's "off". I'm guessing there is a seperate ROM on the Pre with program code that only recognizes Novacomm just incase the main file system messes up. I'll try later for the hell of it after I get a handle of executing programs.

I suppose if someone had the SDK they would need to know what to do to help out...

I don't think NovaComm has much to do with the SDK, just the Developer Tools application.

I've pulled some device info on my Pre, seems like there's a port for something (53781, and I think it'll only appear in this NovaComm mode). I'll look into it later once I figure out the NovaComm interface further.

That port number is definately something to grep for, though!

Anyone notice the references to GPRS in ROM.bin? Does this confirm GSM?

How are you installing this? I am running NovacomInstaller_x86.msi and it opens runs a progress bar then goes to a new progress bar and closes.

I found other references to GSM specific queries in some of the .js files.

It may be that novacom refers tot he chipset, because searching for "novacom linux" one of the results comes up references a link serial driver. Maybe you need the driver on the computer end and can get a serial connection to the device if you hook it up via USB.
