Default IRC application?

With the Pre's multi-task capability, it seems like an irc application would be perfect. I'm not sure how you'd program handing off from EV to wireless connections and the like, but I assume it's workable.

Does anyone know if anything's in the works?

+1 I would love this. I wonder if it would be heavily battery intensive.

I have to assume it would be, since it's going to be updating at a fairly regular rate, even though it's just slinging text. I'm okay with that idea, though. I can bring a charger to work but can't connect to irc.

I can tell you that an IRC app is already in the works.

I wonder if the link in that screenshot was accidental or intentional, might give away too much if it's still early in development.

The code in that link in the screenshot doesn't work right now, and you would be missing the service. It's still in VERY early development. Right now it just connects, joins a channel, and chats.

Yeah, I figured that it was probably an early development screenshot and that's why I wasn't sure if you wanted to advertise the link.

It's open source - release (source) early, release often.

Just don't ask when it will be in Preware, cause that will be some time ...

This is its own client. It has nothing to do with mibbit.

Awesome!!! I'm looking forward to connect to irc.mibbit.net Will it work in the background? Even when the pre is in standby? How about hyperlinks? Can you open links in the web browser from the irc chat? Notifications for private messages and mentions would be nice.

I have it installed on my Pre, but I can't see it from the launcher. I can see it in Preware under Unknown installed packages. What am I missing?

The 3rd one on the wiki page.

It's got "ws.junk.wirc" in it.

I was getting the same issue, even with the service installed. Wasn't able to figure it out unfortunately.
